Evening Devotional

Hear this evening's devotional [Prepared by Jonathan Bagster (1813-1872)]

01.15 Evening:

The measure of faith.

Him that is weak in the faith.―Strong in faith, giving glory to God.

O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?―Great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt.

Believe ye that I am able to do this? They said unto him, Yea, Lord. . . . According to your faith be it unto you.

Lord, Increase our faith.―Building up yourselves on your most holy faith.―Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith.―He which stablisheth us with you in Christ, . . . is God.―The God of all grace, . . . after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.

We . . . that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves.―Let us not . . . judge one another any more: but judge this rather, that no man put a stumblingblock or an occasion to fall in his brother's way.

01.15 Evening:

(Romans 12:3)For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.

(Romans 14:1)Him that is weak in the faith receive ye, but not to doubtful disputations.--(Romans 4:20)He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God;

(Matthew 14:31)And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?--(Matthew 15:28)Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.

(Matthew 9:28,29)And when he was come into the house, the blind men came to him: and Jesus saith unto them, Believe ye that I am able to do this? They said unto him, Yea, Lord. Then touched he their eyes, saying, According to your faith be it unto you.

(Luke 17:5)And the apostles said unto the Lord, Increase our faith.--(Jude 1:20)But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,--(Colossians 2:7)Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.--(II Corinthians 1:21)Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God;--(I Peter 5:10)But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.

(Romans 15:1)We then that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves.--(Romans 14:13)Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge this rather, that no man put a stumblingblock or an occasion to fall in his brother's way.

The LORD is gracious

The LORD is gracious,

and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy.
(Psalm 145:8)

The Word for the YEAR--
Romans 8:35-39 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For Thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

The Word for the month--
Psalm 17:15 As for me, I will behold Thy Face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with Thy likeness.

The Word for the day--
Romans 5:17 For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of Righteousness shall reign in Life by One, Jesus Christ.)

Here is the entire sentence with some context--

Romans 5:12-18 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: (for until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law. Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of Him that was to come. But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one Man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many. And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification. For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by One, Jesus Christ.) therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the Righteousness of One the free gift came upon all men unto justification of Life.

Again, the Word for the day
--Romans 5:17 For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of Righteousness shall reign in Life by One, Jesus Christ.)

Hear this morning's devotional [Prepared by Jonathan Bagster (1813-1872)]

01.15 Morning:

My soul cleaveth unto the dust: quicken thou me according to thy word.

If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For . . . your life is hid with Christ in God.―Our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ: who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.

The flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.―Brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.―Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul.
