The Gift of God. . . Jesus Christ

The Gift of God . . . Jesus Christ

Isaiah 9:6-7 For unto us a child is born, unto us a Son is given: and the government shall be upon His shoulder: and His Name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon His kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting Life.

John 4:10 Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and Who it is that saith to thee, Give Me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of Him, and He would have given thee Living Water.

John 7:38-39 He that believeth on Me, as the Scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of Living Water. (But this spake He of the Spirit, which they that believe on Him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)

Romans 8:9-10 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of His. And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is Life because of Righteousness.

Hebrews 6:4-5 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly Gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, and have tasted the good Word of God, and the powers of the world to come, . . .

Acts 10:45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Ephesians 4:7 But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the Gift of Christ.

Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through Faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

II Corinthians 9:14-15 And by their prayer for you, which long after you for the exceeding grace of God in you. Thanks be unto God for His unspeakable gift.

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is Eternal Life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Romans 5:13-17 (For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law. Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of Him that was to come. But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one Man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many. And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification. For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of Righteousness shall reign in Life by one, Jesus Christ.)

I John 5:11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal Life, and this Life is in His Son.

Romans 16:27 To God only wise, be glory through Jesus Christ for ever. Amen.
I Peter 5:11 To Him be Glory and Dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

Evening Devotional

Hear this evening's devotional [Prepared by Jonathan Bagster (1813-1872)]

02.08 Evening:

Thou shalt call thy walls Salvation, and thy gates Praise.

The wall of the City had twelve foundations, and in them the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.

Ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the Household of God; and are built upon the Foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the Chief Corner Stone; in Whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an Holy Temple in the Lord: in Whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.--If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious. To Whom coming, as unto a Living Stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious, ye also, as lively stones, are built up a Spiritual House, an Holy priesthood, to offer up Spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.

Praise waiteth for Thee, O God, in Sion.

Isa 60:18 Re 21:14 Eph 2:19-22 1Pe 2:3-5 Ps 65:1

02.08 Evening:

(Isaiah 60:18)Violence shall no more be heard in thy land, wasting nor destruction within thy borders; but thou shalt call thy walls Salvation, and thy gates Praise.

(Revelation 21:14)And the wall of the City had twelve foundations, and in them the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.

(Ephesians 2:19-22)Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the Household of God; and are built upon the Foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the Chief Corner Stone; in Whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an Holy Temple in the Lord: in Whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.--(I Peter 2:3-5)If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious. To Whom coming, as unto a Living Stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious, ye also, as lively stones, are built up a Spiritual House, an Holy priesthood, to offer up Spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.

(Psalm 65:1)Praise waiteth for Thee, O God, in Sion: and unto Thee shall the vow be performed.

The LORD is gracious

The LORD is gracious,
and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy.
(Psalm 145:8)

The Word for the YEAR--
Romans 8:35-39 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For Thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

The Word for the month--
Psalm 18:1,2 I will love Thee, O Lord, my strength. The Lord is my Rock, and my Fortress, and my Deliverer; my God, my strength, in Whom I will trust; my Buckler, and the Horn of my salvation, and my high Tower.

The Word for the day--
I Chronicles 29:11-13 Thine, O Lord, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the Victory, and the Majesty: for all that is in the Heaven and in the earth is Thine; Thine is the Kingdom, O Lord, and Thou art exalted as Head above all. Both riches and honour come of Thee, and Thou reignest over all; and in Thine hand is power and might; and in Thine hand it is to make great, and to give strength unto all. Now therefore, our God, we thank Thee, and praise Thy Glorious Name.

Compare Spiritual with Spiritual (1 Corinthians 2:12-14; John 5:39)--

Matthew 6:9,13 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in Heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name. . . And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For Thine is the Kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Matthew 28:18-20 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto Me in Heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Ephesians 1:19-23 . . .and what is the exceeding greatness of His power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of His mighty power, which He wrought in Christ, when He raised Him from the dead, and set Him at His Own right hand in the Heavenly places, far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: and hath put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be the Head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fulness of Him that filleth all in all.

Psalm 98:1,2 O sing unto the Lord a new song; for He hath done marvellous things: His right hand, and His Holy Arm, hath gotten Him the Victory. The Lord hath made known His Salvation: His Righteousness hath He openly shewed in the sight of the heathen.

I Corinthians 15:55-57 O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the Victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Revelation 4:11 Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for Thou hast created all things, and for Thy pleasure they are and were created.

Revelation 5:11-14 And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the Throne and the beasts and the elders: and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands; saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing. And every creature which is in Heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto Him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever. And the four beasts said, Amen. And the four and twenty elders fell down and worshipped Him that liveth for ever and ever.

Again, the Word for the day
--I Chronicles 29:11-13 Thine, O Lord, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the Victory, and the Majesty: for all that is in the Heaven and in the earth is Thine; Thine is the Kingdom, O Lord, and Thou art exalted as Head above all. Both riches and honour come of Thee, and Thou reignest over all; and in Thine hand is power and might; and in Thine hand it is to make great, and to give strength unto all. Now therefore, our God, we thank Thee, and praise Thy Glorious Name.

02.08 Morning:

Henceforth I call you not servants;for the servant knoweth not what his Lord doeth:
but I have called you friends.

The Lord said, Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do?--
It is given unto you to know the Mysteries of the Kingdom of Heaven.--God hath revealed them unto us by His Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.--Even the Hidden Wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory:

Blessed is the Man Whom Thou choosest, and causest to approach unto Thee, that He may dwell in Thy courts: we shall be satisfied with the goodness of Thy House, even of Thy Holy Temple.--The Secret of the Lord is with them that fear Him; and He will shew them His Covenant.--I have given unto them the Words which Thou gavest Me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from Thee, and they have believed that Thou didst send Me.

Ye are My friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.
