Evening devotional

Hear this evening's devotional [Prepared by Jonathan Bagster (1813-1872)]

10.15 Evening:

Forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

Then came Peter to Him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.. . .O thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou desiredst me: Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellowservant, even as I had pity on thee? And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him. So likewise shall My Heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses.―Be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.―You, . . . hath He quickened . . ., having forgiven you all trespasses; blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the Way, nailing it to His cross.―Even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.

Mt 6:12 18:21,22,32-35 Eph 4:32 Col 2:13,14 3:13

10.15 Evening:

(Matthew 6:12)And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

(Matthew 18:21,22)Then came Peter to Him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven. . . .(Matthew 18:32-35)Then his lord, after that he had called him, said unto him, O thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou desiredst me: Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellowservant, even as I had pity on thee? And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him. So likewise shall My Heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses.--(Ephesians 4:32)And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.--(Colossians 2:13,14)And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath He quickened together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses; blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the Way, nailing it to His cross;--(Colossians 3:13)Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.

Romans 16:27 To God only wise, be glory through Jesus Christ for ever. Amen.
I Peter 5:11 To Him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

The LORD is gracious

For all flesh is as grass,
and all the glory of man as the flower of grass.
The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away:
but the Word of the Lord endureth for ever.
And this is the Word which by the Gospel is preached unto you.
Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings, as newborn babes,
desire the sincere milk of the Word,
that ye may grow thereby:
if so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.
(I Peter 1:24-2:3)

The Word for the YEAR--
Romans 8:35-39 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For Thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

The Word for the month--
Psalm 27:1 The Lord is my Light and my Salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the Strength of my Life; of whom shall I be afraid?

The Word for the day--
John 8:12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the Light of the world: he that followeth Me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the Light of Life.

Compare Spiritual with Spiritual (1 Corinthians 2:12-14; John 5:39)--

"Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the Light of the world: he that followeth Me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the Light of Life."

John 1:4 In Him was Life; and the Life was the Light of men.

II Corinthians 4:6 For God, Who commanded the Light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the Light of the Knowledge of the glory of God in the Face of Jesus Christ.

Colossians 3:1-4 If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your Life is hid with Christ in God. When Christ, Who is our Life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with Him in glory.

Ephesians 5:1,2 Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; and walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given Himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.

I Corinthians 11:1 Be ye followers of me [Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ], even as I also am of Christ.

Hebrews 6:12 That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

I Peter 3:13 And who is he that will harm you, if ye be followers of that which is good?

Ephesians 5:8-10 For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye Light in the Lord: walk as children of Light (for the Fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;) proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.

Matthew 16:24 ¶Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.

Again, the Word for the day
--John 8:12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the Light of the world: he that followeth Me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the Light of Life.

10.15 Morning:

God is my defence.

The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; the God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my saviour.―The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him.

When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him.―We may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.

The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

As the mountains are round about Jerusalem, so the Lord is round about his people from henceforth even for ever.―Because thou hast been my help, therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice.

For thy name's sake lead me, and guide me.

Ps 59:9 2Sa 22:2,3 Ps 28:7 Isa 59:19 Heb 13:6 Ps 27:1 125:2 63:7 31:3
