Evening devotional

Hear this evening's devotional [Prepared by Jonathan Bagster (1813-1872)]

10.14 Evening:

Give us this day our Daily Bread.

I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the Righteous forsaken, nor His seed begging Bread.―[His] bread shall be given him; his waters shall be sure.―The ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening; and he drank of the brook.

My God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.―Be content with such things as ye have: for He hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

He humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, . . . that He might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every Word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the Lord doth man live.―Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not that Bread from Heaven; but My Father giveth you the true Bread from Heaven. For the Bread of God is He which cometh down from Heaven, and giveth Life unto the world. Then said they unto Him, Lord, evermore give us this Bread.

Mt 6:11 Ps 37:25 Isa 33:16 1Ki 17:6 Php 4:19 Heb 13:5 De 8:3 Joh 6:32-34

"Wind" and "Doctrine"

And after these things I saw four angels standing on the four corners of the earth, holding the four winds {G417} of the earth, that the wind {G417} should not blow on the earth, nor on the sea, nor on any tree.
And I saw another angel ascending from the east, having the Seal of the Living God: and he cried with a loud voice to the four angels, to whom it was given to hurt the earth and the sea, saying, Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads (Revelation 7:1-3).

That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind {G417} of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; (Ephesians 4:14)

The LORD is gracious

For all flesh is as grass,
and all the glory of man as the flower of grass.
The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away:
but the Word of the Lord endureth for ever.
And this is the Word which by the Gospel is preached unto you.
Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings, as newborn babes,
desire the sincere milk of the Word,
that ye may grow thereby:
if so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.
(I Peter 1:24-2:3)

The Word for the YEAR--
Romans 8:35-39 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For Thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

The Word for the month--
Psalm 27:1 The Lord is my Light and my Salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the Strength of my Life; of whom shall I be afraid?

The Word for the day--
Psalm 104:1,2 Bless the Lord, O my soul. O Lord my God, Thou art very great; Thou art clothed with honour and majesty. Who coverest Thyself with Light as with a garment: Who stretchest out the heavens like a curtain:

Here is the entire sentence--

Psalm 104:1-5 Bless the Lord, O my soul. O Lord my God, Thou art very great; Thou art clothed with honour and majesty. Who coverest Thyself with Light as with a garment: Who stretchest out the heavens like a curtain: Who layeth the beams of his chambers in the waters: Who maketh the clouds his chariot: Who walketh upon the wings of the wind: Who maketh His angels spirits; His ministers a flaming fire: Who laid the foundations of the earth, that it should not be removed for ever.

Compare Spiritual with Spiritual (1 Corinthians 2:12-14; John 5:39)--

"Bless the Lord, O my soul. O Lord my God, Thou art very great; Thou art clothed with honour and majesty. Who coverest Thyself with Light as with a garment..."

I Timothy 6:13-16 I give thee charge in the sight of God, Who quickeneth all things, and before Christ Jesus, Who before Pontius Pilate witnessed a good confession; that thou keep this commandment without spot, unrebukeable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ: Which in His times He shall shew, Who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords; Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the Light which no man can approach unto; Whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to Whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen.

John 1:4 In Him was Life; and the Life was the Light of men.

Psalm 145:3 Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; and His greatness is unsearchable.

Psalm 93:1 The Lord reigneth, He is clothed with majesty; the Lord is clothed with strength, wherewith He hath girded Himself: the world also is stablished, that it cannot be moved.

Revelation 19:13,14 And He was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and His Name is called The Word of God.  And the armies which were in Heaven followed Him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean ---Isaiah 61:10 I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for He hath clothed me with the garments of Salvation, He hath covered me with the Robe of Righteousness, as a Bridegroom decketh Himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels.

Again, the Word for the day--Psalm 104:1,2 Bless the Lord, O my soul. O Lord my God, Thou art very great; Thou art clothed with honour and majesty. Who coverest Thyself with Light as with a garment: Who stretchest out the heavens like a curtain:

10.14 Morning:

Christ both died, and rose, and revived, that He might be Lord both of the dead and living.

Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise Him; He hath put Him to grief: when Thou shalt make His Soul an offering for sin, He shall see His Seed, He shall prolong His days, and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in His hand. He shall see of the travail of His Soul, and shall be satisfied: by His knowledge shall My Righteous Servant justify many; for He shall bear their iniquities.―Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into His glory?―We thus judge, that if One died for all, then were all dead: and that He died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto Him which died for them, and rose again.

Let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, Whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.―Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you, who by Him do believe in God.
