Evening devotional

Hear this evening's devotional [Prepared by Jonathan Bagster (1813-1872)]

07.25 Evening:

Thou wilt shew Me the path of Life.

Thus saith the Lord; Behold, I set before you the Way of Life, and the way of death.―I will teach you the good and the right Way.―I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me.―Follow Me.

There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.―Wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: because strait is the gate, and narrow is the Way, which leadeth unto Life, and few there be that find it.

An Highway shall be there, and a Way, and it shall be called The Way of Holiness; the unclean shall not pass over it; but it shall be for those: the wayfaring men, though fools, shall not err therein.―Then shall we know, if we follow on to know the Lord.

In My Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.

07.25 Evening:

(Psalm 16:11)Thou wilt shew Me the path of Life: in Thy presence is fulness of joy; at Thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.

(Jeremiah 21:8)And unto this people thou shalt say, Thus saith the Lord; Behold, I set before you the Way of Life, and the way of death.--(I Samuel 12:23)Moreover as for me, God forbid that I should sin against the Lord in ceasing to pray for you: but I will teach you the good and the right Way:--(John 14:6)Jesus saith unto him, I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me.--(Matthew 4:19)And He saith unto them, Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.

(Proverbs 14:12)There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.--(Matthew 7:13,14)Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: because strait is the gate, and narrow is the Way, which leadeth unto Life, and few there be that find it.

(Isaiah 35:8)And an Highway shall be there, and a Way, and it shall be called The Way of Holiness; the unclean shall not pass over it; but it shall be for those: the wayfaring men, though fools, shall not err therein.--(Hosea 6:3)Then shall we know, if we follow on to know the Lord: His going forth is prepared as the morning; and He shall come unto us as the rain, as the latter and former rain unto the earth.

(John 14:2)In My Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.

Romans 16:27 To God only wise, be glory through Jesus Christ for ever. Amen.
I Peter 5:11 To Him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

The LORD is gracious

The Lord is gracious,
and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy.
(Psalm 145:8)

The Word for the YEAR--
Romans 8:35-39 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For Thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

The Word for the month--
Psalm 23:1 The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want.

The Word for the day--
I Timothy 3:16 And without controversy great is the Mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.

Compare Spiritual with Spiritual (1 Corinthians 2:12-14; John 5:39)--

"great is the Mystery of godliness:"

Mark 4:11 And He said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the Mystery of the kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all these things are done in parables:

Ephesians 3:4 Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the Mystery of Christ)

Ephesians 5:32 This is a great Mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.

Ephesians 6:19 And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the Mystery of the Gospel,

Colossians 1:26-29 Even the Mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to His saints: to whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this Mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the Hope of glory: Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all Wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus: whereunto I also labour, striving according to His working, which worketh in me mightily.

"God was manifest in the flesh
"

John 1:1,14 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. . . And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

Colossians 2:9 For in Him [Christ] dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.

II Corinthians 5:18-21 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to Himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; to wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto Himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God. For He hath made Him to be sin for us, Who knew no sin; that we might be made the Righteousness of God in Him.

"justified in the Spirit"

Romans 1:3,4 Concerning His Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the Seed of David according to the flesh; and declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the Spirit of Holiness, by the resurrection from the dead:

"seen of angels" ["messengers" Lk 9:52]

I John 1:1-3 That which was from the Beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of Life; (for the Life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that Eternal Life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;) that which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with His Son Jesus Christ.

I Peter 1:10-12 Of which salvation the prophets have enquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you: searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow. Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into.

"preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world"

Acts 10:44,45 While Peter yet spake these Words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the Word. And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the Gift of the Holy Ghost.

"received up into glory."

Mark 16:19,20 So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, He was received up into Heaven, and sat on the right hand of God. And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the Word with signs following. Amen.

Acts 1:11 Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into Heaven?
this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into Heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen Him go into Heaven.

Hebrews 2:9 But we see Jesus, Who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that He by the grace of God should taste death for every man.

Philippians 2:11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Again, the Word for the day
--I Timothy 3:16 And without controversy great is the Mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.

Hear this morning's devotional [Prepared by Jonathan Bagster (1813-1872)]

07.25 Morning:

We know that we have passed from death unto Life.

He that heareth My Word, and believeth on Him that sent Me, hath Everlasting Life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto Life.―He that hath the Son hath Life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not Life.

He which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God; Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts.―Hereby we know that we are of the Truth, and shall assure our hearts before Him. . . . Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God.―We know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness.

You hath He quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins.―Quickened . . . together with Christ.―Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the Kingdom of His dear Son.
