"that mortality might be swallowed up of Life"

For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened:

not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon,

that mortality might be swallowed up of Life.

II Corinthians 5:4

Here is some immediate context--

II Corinthians 4:13-5:21

We having the same Spirit of Faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak; knowing that He which raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also by Jesus, and shall present us with you. For all things are for your sakes, that the abundant grace might through the thanksgiving of many redound to the glory of God. For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and Eternal weight of glory; while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are Eternal.

For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, Eternal in the Heavens. For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from Heaven: if so be that being clothed we shall not be found naked. For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be swallowed up of Life. Now He that hath wrought us for the selfsame thing is God, Who also hath given unto us the earnest of the Spirit. Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord: (for we walk by Faith, not by sight:) we are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of Him. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.

Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences. For we commend not ourselves again unto you, but give you occasion to glory on our behalf, that ye may have somewhat to answer them which glory in appearance, and not in heart. For whether we be beside ourselves, it is to God: or whether we be sober, it is for your cause. For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if One died for all, then were all dead: and that He died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto Him which died for them, and rose again. Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we Him no more. Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. And all things are of God, Who hath reconciled us to Himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; to wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto Himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the Word of reconciliation. Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God. For He hath made Him to be sin for us, Who knew no sin; that we might be made the Righteousness of God in Him.

For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened:

not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon,

that mortality might be swallowed up of Life.

05.17 Evening:

I have exalted One chosen out of the people.

Verily He took not on him the nature of angels; but He took on Him the seed of Abraham. Wherefore in all things it behoved Him to be made like unto His brethren.―Upon the likeness of the throne was the likeness as the appearance of a Man above upon it.―The Son of man which is in Heaven.―Behold My hands and My feet, that it is I Myself: handle Me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see Me have.

[He] made Himself of no reputation, and took upon Him the form of a Servant, and was made in the likeness of men: and being found in fashion as a Man, He humbled Himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted Him, and given Him a Name which is above every name: that at the Name of Jesus every knee should bow.―Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die: for I have not found thy works perfect before God.

05.17 Evening:

(Psalm 89:19)Then Thou spakest in vision to Thy Holy One, and saidst, I have laid help upon One that is mighty; I have exalted One chosen out of the people.

(Hebrews 2:16,17)For verily He took not on Him the nature of angels; but He took on Him the seed of Abraham. Wherefore in all things it behoved Him to be made like unto His brethren, that He might be a merciful and faithful High Priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.--(Ezekiel 1:26)And above the firmament that was over their heads was the likeness of a throne, as the appearance of a sapphire Stone: and upon the likeness of the throne was the likeness as the appearance of a Man above upon it.--(John 3:13)And no man hath ascended up to Heaven, but He that came down from Heaven, even the Son of man which is in Heaven.--(Luke 24:39)Behold My hands and My feet, that it is I Myself: handle Me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see Me have.

(Philippians 2:7-10)But made Himself of no reputation, and took upon Him the form of a Servant, and was made in the likeness of men: and being found in fashion as a Man, He humbled Himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted Him, and given Him a Name which is above every name: that at the Name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in Heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;--(Revelation 3:2)Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die: for I have not found thy works perfect before God.

The Lord is gracious

The Lord is gracious,

and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy.
(Psalm 145:8)

The Word for the YEAR--
Romans 8:35-39 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For Thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

The Word for the month--
Psalm 107:8,9 Oh that men would praise the Lord for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men! For He satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness.

The Word for the day--
Psalm 25:6-8 Remember, O Lord, Thy tender mercies and Thy lovingkindnesses; for they have been ever of old. Remember not the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions: according to Thy mercy remember Thou me for Thy goodness' sake, O Lord. Good and upright is the Lord: therefore will He teach sinners in the Way.

05.17 Morning:

I am the Lord your God; walk in My statutes, and keep My judgments, and do them.

As He which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation.―He that saith he abideth in Him ought himself also so to walk, even as He walked.―If ye know that He is Righteous, ye know that every one that doeth righteousness is born of Him.―Circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing, but the keeping of the commandments of God.―Whosoever shall keep the whole Law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.

Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God.―Teach me, O Lord, the Way of Thy statutes.

Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of His good pleasure.―The God of peace, . . . make you perfect in every good work to do His will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ.
