Evening devotional

Hear this evening's devotional [Prepared by Jonathan Bagster (1813-1872)]

09.04 Evening:

What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter.

Thou shalt remember all the way which the Lord thy God led thee these forty years in the wilderness, to humble thee, and to prove thee, to know what was in thine heart, whether thou wouldest keep His commandments, or no.

When I passed by thee, and looked upon thee, behold, thy time was the time of love; . . . yea, I sware unto thee, and entered into a Covenant with thee, saith the Lord God, and thou becamest Mine.―Whom the Lord loveth He chasteneth.

Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: but rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when His glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.―Our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen.

Joh 13:7 De 8:2 Eze 16:8 Heb 12:6 1Pe 4:12,13 2Co 4:17,18

09.04 Evening:

(John 13:7)Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter.

(Deuteronomy 8:2)And thou shalt remember all the way which the Lord thy God led thee these forty years in the wilderness, to humble thee, and to prove thee, to know what was in thine heart, whether thou wouldest keep His commandments, or no.

(Ezekiel 16:8)Now when I passed by thee, and looked upon thee, behold, thy time was the time of love; and I spread My skirt over thee, and covered thy nakedness: yea, I sware unto thee, and entered into a Covenant with thee, saith the Lord God, and thou becamest Mine.--(Hebrews 12:6)For whom the Lord loveth He chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom He receiveth.

(I Peter 4:12,13)Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: but rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when His glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.--(II Corinthians 4:17,18)For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.

The LORD is gracious

The Lord is gracious,
and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy.
(Psalm 145:8)

The Word for the YEAR--
Romans 8:35-39 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For Thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

The Word for the month--
Psalm 25:8,9 Good and upright is the Lord: therefore will He teach sinners in the Way. The meek will He guide in Judgment: and the meek will He teach His Way.

The Word for the day--
Zephaniah 2:3 Seek ye the Lord, all ye meek of the earth, which have wrought His judgment; seek Righteousness, seek Meekness: it may be ye shall be hid in the Day of the Lord's anger.

09.04 Morning:

Sit still, my daughter.

Take heed, and be quiet; fear not, neither be fainthearted.―Be still, and know that I am God.―Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God?―The loftiness of man shall be bowed down, and the haughtiness of men shall be made low: and the Lord alone shall be exalted in that Day.

Mary, . . . sat at Jesus' feet, and heard His Word.. . .Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.―In returning and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength.―Commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still.

Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.

He shall not be afraid of evil tidings: his heart is fixed, trusting in the Lord. His heart is established.

He that believeth shall not make haste.
