Psalm 147

Praise ye the Lord: for it is good to sing praises unto our God; for it is pleasant; and praise is comely.

The Lord doth build up Jerusalem: He gathereth together the outcasts of Israel. He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds. He telleth the number of the stars; He calleth them all by their names. Great is our Lord, and of great power: His understanding is infinite. The Lord lifteth up the meek: He casteth the wicked down to the ground. Sing unto the Lord with thanksgiving; sing praise upon the harp unto our God: Who covereth the Heaven with clouds, Who prepareth rain for the earth, Who maketh grass to grow upon the mountains. He giveth to the beast his food, and to the young ravens which cry. He delighteth not in the strength of the horse: He taketh not pleasure in the legs of a man. The Lord taketh pleasure in them that fear Him, in those that hope in His mercy.

Praise the Lord, O Jerusalem; praise thy God, O Zion.

For He hath strengthened the bars of thy gates; He hath blessed thy children within thee. He maketh peace in thy borders, and filleth thee with the finest of the wheat. He sendeth forth His commandment upon earth: His Word runneth very swiftly. He giveth snow like wool: He scattereth the hoarfrost like ashes. He casteth forth His ice like morsels: who can stand before His cold? He sendeth out His Word, and melteth them: He causeth His wind to blow, and the waters flow. He sheweth His Word unto Jacob, His statutes and His judgments unto Israel. He hath not dealt so with any nation: and as for His judgments, they have not known them.

Praise ye the Lord.

Evening Devotional

Hear this evening's devotional [Prepared by Jonathan Bagster (1813-1872)]

04.29 Evening:

That blessed Hope, . . . the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ.

Which Hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil; whither the Forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus.―Whom the Heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things.―When He shall come to be glorified in His saints, and to be admired in all them that believe.

The whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now. And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the Firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.―Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when He shall appear, we shall be like Him; for we shall see Him as He is.―When Christ, Who is our Life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with Him in glory.

Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

04.29 Evening:

(Titus 2:13)Looking for that blessed Hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;

(Hebrews 6:19,20)Which Hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil; whither the Forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an High Priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.--(Acts 3:21)Whom the Heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all His Holy prophets since the world began.--(II Thessalonians 1:10)When He shall come to be glorified in His saints, and to be admired in all them that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that Day.

(Romans 8:22,23)For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now. And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the Firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.--(I John 3:2)Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when He shall appear, we shall be like Him; for we shall see Him as He is.--(Colossians 3:4)When Christ, Who is our Life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with Him in glory.

(Revelation 22:20)He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

The LORD is gracious

The Lord is gracious,

and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy.
(Psalm 145:8)

The Word for the YEAR--
Romans 8:35-39 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For Thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

The Word for the month--
Psalm 18:30 As for God, His Way is perfect: the Word of the Lord is tried: He is a buckler to all those that trust in Him.

The Word for the day--
Psalm 85:13 Righteousness shall go before Him; and shall set us in the Way of His steps.

Compare Spiritual with Spiritual (1 Corinthians 2:12-14; John 5:39)--

"Righteousness shall go before Him; and shall set us in the Way of His steps."

Jeremiah 23:6 In His days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is His Name whereby He shall be called, THE Lord OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.

I Corinthians 1:30,31 But of Him are ye in Christ Jesus, Who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: that, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.

Isaiah 40:9-11 O Zion, that bringest good tidings, get thee up into the high mountain; O Jerusalem, that bringest good tidings, lift up thy voice with strength; lift it up, be not afraid; say unto the cities of Judah, Behold your God! Behold, the Lord God will come with strong hand, and His arm shall rule for Him: behold, His reward is with Him, and His work before Him. He shall feed His flock like a Shepherd: He shall gather the lambs with His arm, and carry them in His bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young.

John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me.

Psalm 18:30 As for God, His Way is perfect: the Word of the Lord is tried: He is a buckler to all those that trust ["refuge" Ps 57:1;"hope" Prov 14:32] in Him.

Psalm 119:133 Order my steps in Thy Word: and let not any iniquity have dominion over me.

Psalm 66:8,9 O bless our God, ye people, and make the voice of His praise to be heard: Which holdeth ["set" Ps 85:13] our soul in Life, and suffereth not our feet to be moved.

Again, the Word for the day
--Psalm 85:13 Righteousness shall go before Him; and shall set us in the Way of His steps.

Hear this morning's devotional [Prepared by Jonathan Bagster (1813-1872)]

04.29 Morning:

Consider how great things He hath done for you.

Thou shalt remember all the Way which the Lord thy God led thee these forty years in the wilderness, to humble thee, and to prove thee, to know what was in thine heart, whether thou wouldest keep His commandments, or no. . . . Thou shalt also consider in thine heart, that, as a man chasteneth his son, so the Lord thy God chasteneth thee.

I know, O Lord, that Thy judgments are right, and that Thou in faithfulness hast afflicted me.―It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn Thy statutes.―Before I was afflicted I went astray: but now have I kept Thy Word.―The Lord hath chastened me sore: but He hath not given me over unto death.―He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. For as the Heaven is high above the earth, so great is His mercy toward them that fear Him.―He knoweth our frame; He remembereth that we are dust.
