A Word search "Content"

"Content"

Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content{G714} with such things as ye have:for He hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.
Hebrews 13:5

Strongs: G714

714 ἀρκέω [A)RKE/W] {arkéō} \ar-keh'-o\ apparently a primary verb (but probably akin to 142 through the idea of raising a barrier); properly, to ward off, i.e. (by implication) to avail (figuratively, be satisfactory):--be content, be enough, suffice, be sufficient.

Matthew 25:9 But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough{G714} for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.

Luke 3:14 And the soldiers likewise demanded of him, saying, And what shall we do? And he said unto them, Do violence to no man, neither accuse any falsely; and be content{G714} with your wages.

John 6:7 Philip answered Him, Two hundred pennyworth of bread is not sufficient{G714} for them, that every one of them may take a little.

John 14:8 Philip saith unto Him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth{G714} us.

II Corinthians 12:9 And He said unto me, My grace is sufficient{G714} for thee: for My Strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the Power of Christ may rest upon me.

I Timothy 6:8 And having food and raiment let us be therewith content{G714}.

Hebrews 13:5,6 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content{G714} with such things as ye have: for He hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my Helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.

III John 1:10 Wherefore, if I come, I will remember his deeds which he doeth, prating against us with malicious words: and not content{G714} therewith, neither doth he himself receive the brethren, and forbiddeth them that would, and casteth them out of the church.

"Contentment"

But godliness with contentment{G841} is great gain.
I Timothy 6:6

Strongs: G841

841 αὐτάρκεια [AU)TA/RKEIA] {autárkeia} \ow-tar'-ki-ah\ from 842; self-satisfaction, i.e. (abstractly) contentedness, or (concretely) a competence:--contentment, sufficiency.

II Corinthians 9:8-11 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency {G841} in all things, may abound to every good work: (as it is written, He hath dispersed abroad; He hath given to the poor: His Righteousness remaineth for ever. Now He that ministereth Seed to the sower both minister Bread for your food, and multiply your Seed sown, and increase the fruits of your Righteousness;) being enriched in every thing to all bountifulness, which causeth through us thanksgiving to God.

I Timothy 6:3-6 If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness; he is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings, perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the Truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself. But godliness with contentment{G841} is great gain.

from 842

Strongs: G842

842 αὐτάρκης [AU)TA/RKHS] {autárkēs} \ow-tar'-kace\ from 846 and 714 [above]; self-complacent, i.e. contented:--content.

Philippians 4:11 Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content{G842}.

Evening devotional

Hear this evening's devotional [Prepared by Jonathan Bagster (1813-1872)]

11.06 Evening:

Lead me in Thy Truth, and teach me.

When . . . the Spirit of Truth, is come, He will guide you into all Truth.―Ye have an Unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things.

To the Law and to the Testimony: if they speak not according to this Word, it is because there is no Light in them.―All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: that the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.―The Holy Scriptures, . . . are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

I will instruct thee and teach thee in the Way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with Mine eye.―The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of Light.―If any man will do His will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God.―The wayfaring men, though fools, shall not err therein.

Ps 25:5 Joh 16:13 1Jo 2:20 Isa 8:20 2Ti 3:16,17 2Ti 3:15 Ps 32:8 Mt 6:22 Joh 7:17 Isa 35:8

11.06 Evening:

(Psalm 25:5)Lead me in Thy Truth, and teach me: for Thou art the God of my salvation; on Thee do I wait all the day.

(John 16:13)Howbeit when He, the Spirit of Truth, is come, He will guide you into all Truth: for He shall not speak of Himself; but whatsoever He shall hear, that shall He speak: and He will shew you things to come.--(I John 2:20)But ye have an Unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things.

(Isaiah 8:20)To the Law and to the Testimony: if they speak not according to this Word, it is because there is no Light in them.--(II Timothy 3:16,17)All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: that the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.--(II Timothy 3:15)And that from a child thou hast known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

The LORD is gracious

For all flesh is as grass,
and all the glory of man as the flower of grass.
The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away:
but the Word of the Lord endureth for ever.
And this is the Word which by the Gospel is preached unto you.
Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings, as newborn babes,
desire the sincere milk of the Word,
that ye may grow thereby:
if so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.
(I Peter 1:24-2:3)

The Word for the YEAR--
Romans 8:35-39 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For Thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

The Word for the month--
Psalm 27:13,14 I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the Goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and He shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord.

The Word for the day--
II Thessalonians 2:16,17 Now our Lord Jesus Christ Himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good Hope through grace, comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good Word and work.

Compare Spiritual with Spiritual (1 Corinthians 2:12-14; John 5:39)--

"Now our Lord Jesus Christ Himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace, comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good Word and work."

"good Word"

John 6:63 It is the Spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the Words that I speak unto you, they are Spirit, and they are Life.

Colossians 3:16 Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

"good hope"

Romans 8:24,25 For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for? But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.

"stablish you"

Psalm 138:8 The Lord will perfect that which concerneth me: thy mercy, O Lord, endureth for ever: forsake not the works of Thine Own hands.

I Peter 5:10,11 But the God of all grace, Who hath called us unto His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you. To Him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

"everlasting consolation...comfort your hearts"

Philippians 2:1,2 If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies, fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.

Romans 15:4 For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have Hope.

Psalm 31:24 Be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the Lord.

Again, the Word for the day--II Thessalonians 2:16,17 Now our Lord Jesus Christ Himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace, comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good Word and work.

Hear this morning's devotional [Prepared by Jonathan Bagster (1813-1872)]

11.06 Morning:

When Christ, Who is our Life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with Him in glory.

I am the Resurrection, and the Life: he that believeth in Me, though he were dead, yet shall he Live.―God hath given to us Eternal Life, and this Life is in His Son. He that hath the Son hath Life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not Life.

The Lord Himself shall descend from Heaven with a shout, with the Voice of the Archangel, and with the Trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these Words.―When He shall appear, we shall be like Him; for we shall see Him as He is.―It is sown in dishonour; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power.

If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto Myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
