"Our help is in the Name of the LORD, Who made heaven and earth"

Psalm 123
A Song of degrees.

Unto Thee lift I up mine eyes, O Thou that dwellest in the Heavens. Behold, as the eyes of servants look unto the hand of their masters, and as the eyes of a maiden unto the hand of her mistress; so our eyes wait upon the Lord our God, until that He have mercy upon us. Have mercy upon us, O Lord, have mercy upon us: for we are exceedingly filled with contempt. Our soul is exceedingly filled with the scorning of those that are at ease, and with the contempt of the proud.

Jeremiah 10:23,24 O Lord, I know that the Way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps. O Lord, correct me, but with judgment; not in Thine anger, lest Thou bring me to nothing.

Jeremiah 9:23,24 Thus saith the Lord, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches: but let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth Me, that I am the Lord which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the Lord.

Psalm 36:5-10 Thy mercy, O Lord, is in the Heavens; and Thy faithfulness reacheth unto the clouds. Thy righteousness is like the great mountains; Thy judgments are a great deep: O Lord, Thou preservest man and beast. How excellent is Thy lovingkindness, O God! therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of Thy wings. They shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of Thy house; and Thou shalt make them drink of the River of Thy pleasures. For with Thee is the Fountain of Life: in Thy Light shall we see Light. O continue Thy lovingkindness unto them that know Thee; and Thy Righteousness to the upright in heart.

Psalm 124
A Song of degrees of David.

If it had not been the Lord Who was on our side, now may Israel say; If it had not been the Lord Who was on our side, when men rose up against us: then they had swallowed us up quick, when their wrath was kindled against us: then the waters had overwhelmed us, the stream had gone over our soul: then the proud waters had gone over our soul.

Blessed be the Lord, Who hath not given us as a prey to their teeth. Our soul is escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers: the snare is broken, and we are escaped. Our help is in the Name of the Lord, Who made heaven and earth.

05.30 Evening:

Thou hearest Me always.

Jesus lifted up His eyes, and said, Father, I thank Thee that Thou hast heard Me.―Father, glorify Thy Name. Then came there a Voice from Heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.―Lo, I come . . . to do Thy will, O God.―Not My will, but Thine, be done.

As He is, so are we in this world.―This is the confidence that we have in Him, that, if we ask any thing according to His will, He heareth us.

Whatsoever we ask, we receive of Him, because we keep His commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in His sight.

Without Faith it is impossible to please Him: for he that cometh to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.

He ever liveth to make intercession for them.―We have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the Righteous.

05.30 Evening:

(John 11:42)And I knew that Thou hearest Me always: but because of the people which stand by I said it, that they may believe that Thou hast sent Me.

(John 11:41)Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up His eyes, and said, Father, I thank Thee that Thou hast heard Me.--(John 12:28)Father, glorify Thy Name. Then came there a Voice from Heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.--(Hebrews 10:7)Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the Book it is written of Me,) to do Thy will, O God.--(Luke 22:42)Saying, Father, if Thou be willing, remove this cup from Me: nevertheless not My will, but Thine, be done.

(I John 4:17)Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the Day of Judgment: because as He is, so are we in this world.--(I John 5:14)And this is the confidence that we have in Him, that, if we ask any thing according to His will, He heareth us:

(I John 3:22)And whatsoever we ask, we receive of Him, because we keep His commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in His sight.

(Hebrews 11:6)But without Faith it is impossible to please Him: for he that cometh to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.

(Hebrews 7:25)Wherefore He is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by Him, seeing He ever liveth to make intercession for them.--(I John 2:1)My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the Righteous:

The Lord is gracious

The Lord is gracious,
and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy.
(Psalm 145:8)

The Word for the YEAR--
Romans 8:35-39 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For Thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

The Word for the month--
Psalm 107:8,9 Oh that men would praise the Lord for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men! For He satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness.

The Word for the day--
Hebrews 13:14,15 For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come. By Him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to His Name.

Hear this morning's devotional [Prepared by Jonathan Bagster (1813-1872)]

05.30 Morning:

Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest.

Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, . . . because strait is the gate, and narrow is the Way, which leadeth unto Life, and few there be that find it.―The Kingdom of Heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.―Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto Everlasting Life, which the Son of man shall give unto you.―Give diligence to make your calling and election sure: . . . for so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the Everlasting Kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.―So run, that ye may obtain. And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.

For he that is entered into His rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from His.―The Lord shall be unto thee an Everlasting Light, and thy God thy glory.

05.30 Morning:

(Hebrews 4:11)Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.

(Matthew 7:13,14)Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: because strait is the gate, and narrow is the Way, which leadeth unto Life, and few there be that find it.--(Matthew 11:12)And from the days of John the Baptist until now the Kingdom of Heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.--(John 6:27)Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto Everlasting Life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for Him hath God the Father sealed.--(II Peter 1:10,11)Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall: for so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the Everlasting Kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.--(I Corinthians 9:24,25)Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain. And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.

(Hebrews 4:10)For he that is entered into His rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from His.--(Isaiah 60:19)The sun shall be no more thy light by day; neither for brightness shall the moon give light unto thee: but the Lord shall be unto thee an Everlasting Light, and thy God thy glory.

I Timothy 4:15,16 Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all. Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.

Psalm 72:17-19 His Name shall endure for ever: His Name shall be continued as long as the sun: and men shall be blessed in Him: all nations shall call Him blessed. Blessed be the Lord God, the God of Israel, Who only doeth wondrous things. And blessed be His Glorious Name for ever: and let the whole earth be filled with His glory; Amen, and Amen.
