Hear this evening's devotional [Prepared by Jonathan Bagster (1813-1872)]
03.17 Evening:
In all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
When the woman saw that the tree was good for food [the lust of the flesh], and that it was pleasant to the eyes [the lust of the eyes], and a tree to be desired to make one wise [the pride of life], she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
When the tempter came to Him, he said, If Thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread [the lust of the flesh]. But He answered and said, It is Written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every Word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.--The devil . . . sheweth Him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them [the lust of the eyes and the pride of life]. . . .Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan.
In that He Himself hath suffered being tempted, He is able to succour them that are tempted.
Blessed is the man that endureth temptation.

(Genesis 3:6)And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.--(I John 2:16)For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
(Matthew 4:3,4)And when the tempter came to Him, he said, If Thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread. But He answered and said, It is Written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every Word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. . . .(Matthew 4:8)Again, the devil taketh Him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth Him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; . . .(Matthew 4:10)Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is Written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and Him only shalt thou serve.--(I John 2:16)For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
(Hebrews 2:18)For in that He Himself hath suffered being tempted ["proved" Jn 6:6;"tried" Rev 2:10], He is able to succour them that are tempted ["proved" Jn 6:6;"tried" Rev 2:10].
(James 1:12)Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of Life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love Him.
