"So will not we go back from Thee"

Psalm 80

To the Chief Musician upon Shoshannim–eduth, A Psalm of Asaph.

Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel, Thou that leadest Joseph like a flock; Thou that dwellest between the cherubims, shine forth. Before Ephraim and Benjamin and Manasseh stir up Thy Strength, and come and save us. Turn us again, O God, and cause Thy Face to shine; and we shall be saved. O Lord God of hosts, how long wilt Thou be angry against the prayer of Thy people? Thou feedest them with the bread of tears; and givest them tears to drink in great measure. Thou makest us a strife unto our neighbours: and our enemies laugh among themselves. Turn us again, O God of hosts, and cause Thy Face to shine; and we shall be saved.

Thou hast brought a Vine out of Egypt: Thou hast cast out the heathen, and planted it. Thou preparedst room before it, and didst cause it to take deep root, and it filled the land. The hills were covered with the shadow of it, and the boughs thereof were like the goodly cedars. She sent out her boughs unto the sea, and her branches unto the River. Why hast Thou then broken down her hedges, so that all they which pass by the way do pluck her? The boar out of the wood doth waste it, and the wild beast of the field doth devour it. Return, we beseech Thee, O God of hosts: look down from Heaven, and behold, and visit this Vine; and the Vineyard which Thy right hand hath planted, and the Branch that Thou madest strong for Thyself. It is burned with fire, it is cut down: they perish at the rebuke of Thy countenance.
Let Thy hand be upon the Man of Thy right hand, upon the Son of man Whom Thou madest strong for Thyself. So will not we go back from Thee: quicken us, and we will call upon Thy Name. Turn us again, O Lord God of hosts, cause Thy Face to shine; and we shall be saved.

Hebrews 12:24 And to Jesus the Mediator of the New Covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.

Hebrews 13:20,21 Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the Everlasting Covenant, make you perfect in every good work to do His will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ; to Whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

Evening devotional

11.17 Evening:

Whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.

They that plow iniquity, and sow wickedness, reap the same.―They have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind.―He that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption.

To him that soweth righteousness shall be a sure reward.―He that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap Life everlasting. And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the Household of Faith.

There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth; and there is that withholdeth more than is meet, but it tendeth to poverty. The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself.―He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.

11.17 Evening:

(Galatians 6:7)Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.

(Job 4:8)Even as I have seen, they that plow iniquity, and sow wickedness, reap the same.--(Hosea 8:7)For they have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind: it hath no stalk: the bud shall yield no meal: if so be it yield, the strangers shall swallow it up.--(Galatians 6:8)For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap Life everlasting.

(Proverbs 11:18)The wicked worketh a deceitful work: but to him that soweth righteousness shall be a sure reward.--(Galatians 6:8-10)For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap Life everlasting. And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the Household of Faith.

(Proverbs 11:24,25)There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth; and there is that withholdeth more than is meet, but it tendeth to poverty. The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself.--(II Corinthians 9:6)But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.

The LORD is gracious

For all flesh is as grass,
and all the glory of man as the flower of grass.
The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away:
but the Word of the Lord endureth for ever.
And this is the Word which by the Gospel is preached unto you.
Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings, as newborn babes,
desire the sincere milk of the Word,
that ye may grow thereby:
if so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.
(I Peter 1:24-2:3)

The Word for the YEAR--
Romans 8:35-39 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For Thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

The Word for the month--
Psalm 27:13,14 I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the Goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and He shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord.

The Word for the day--
Psalm 17:15 As for me, I will behold Thy Face in Righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with Thy likeness.

Compare Spiritual with Spiritual (1 Corinthians 2:12-14; John 5:39)--

"As for me, I will behold Thy Face in Righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with Thy likeness."

Psalm 119:137 Righteous art Thou, O Lord, and upright are Thy judgments.

Revelation 22:4 And they shall see His Face; and His Name shall be in their foreheads.

Psalm 89:16 In Thy Name shall they rejoice all the day: and in Thy Righteousness shall they be exalted.

Romans 8:28,29 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose. For whom He did foreknow, He also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the Firstborn among many brethren.

I John 3:2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when He shall appear, we shall be like Him; for we shall see Him as He is.

Again, the Word for the day--Psalm 17:15 As for me, I will behold Thy Face in Righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with Thy likeness.

Hear this morning's devotional [Prepared by Jonathan Bagster (1813-1872)]

11.17 Morning:

Thy thoughts are very deep.

We . . . do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the Knowledge of His will in all Wisdom and Spiritual Understanding.―That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; and to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.

O the depth of the riches both of the Wisdom and Knowledge of God! how unsearchable are His judgments, and His ways past finding out!―For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways, saith the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.―Many, O Lord my God, are Thy wonderful works which Thou hast done, and Thy thoughts which are to us-ward: they cannot be reckoned up in order unto Thee: if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered.

Ps 92:5 Col 1:9 Eph 3:17-19 Ro 11:33 Isa 55:8,9 Ps 40:5

Psalm 72:17-19 His Name shall endure for ever: His Name shall be continued as long as the sun: and men shall be blessed in Him: all nations shall call Him blessed.
