Evening devotional

Hear this evening's devotional [Prepared by Jonathan Bagster (1813-1872)]

05.09 Evening:

It is I; be not afraid.

When I saw Him, I fell at His feet as dead. And He laid His right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last: I am He that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.―I, even I, am He that blotteth out thy transgressions for Mine Own sake, and will not remember thy sins.

Woe is me! for I am undone; . . . mine eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts. Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar: and he laid it upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged.―I have blotted out, as a thick cloud, thy transgressions, and, as a cloud, thy sins: return unto Me; for I have redeemed Thee.

If any man sin, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the Righteous.

Joh 6:20 Re 1:17,18 Isa 43:25 6:5-7 44:22 1Jo 2:1

05.09 Evening:

(John 6:20)But He saith unto them, It is I; be not afraid.

(Revelation 1:17,18)And when I saw Him, I fell at His feet as dead. And He laid His right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last: I am He that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.--(Isaiah 43:25)I, even I, am He that blotteth out thy transgressions for Mine Own sake, and will not remember thy sins.

(Isaiah 6:5-7)Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts. Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar: and he laid it upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged.--(Isaiah 44:22)I have blotted out, as a thick cloud, thy transgressions, and, as a cloud, thy sins: return unto Me; for I have redeemed thee.

(I John 2:1)My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the Righteous:

"Jerusalem which is Above is free"

But Jerusalem which is Above is free, which is the mother of us all.

Galatians 4:26

Revelation 21:2-4 And I John saw the holy City, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of Heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her Husband. And I heard a great Voice out of Heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

II Corinthians 11:2 For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one Husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.

Revelation 21:9-11 And there came unto me one of the seven angels which had the seven vials full of the seven last plagues, and talked with me, saying, Come hither, I will shew thee the bride, the Lamb's wife. And he carried me away in the Spirit to a great and High Mountain, and shewed me that great City, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of Heaven from God, having the glory of God: and her Light was like unto a Stone most precious
[cp.1 Pet 2:7], even like a jasper Stone[cp.Rev 4:2,3], clear as crystal; . . .

But Jerusalem which is Above is free, which is the mother of us all.

Galatians 4:26

Romans 8:2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.

Romans 6:22 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting Life.

But Jerusalem which is Above is free, which is the mother of us all.

Galatians 4:26

John 3:7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again ["from Above" Jn 3:31].

Colossians 3:1-3 If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are Above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things Above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your Life is hid with Christ in God.

But Jerusalem which is Above is free, which is the mother of us all.

The LORD is gracious

The Lord is gracious,
and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy.
(Psalm 145:8)

The Word for the YEAR--
Romans 8:35-39 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For Thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

The Word for the month--
Psalm 107:8,9 Oh that men would praise the Lord for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men! For He satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness.

The Word for the day--
Psalm 117 O praise the Lord, all ye nations: praise Him, all ye people. For His merciful kindness is great toward us: and the truth of the Lord endureth for ever. Praise ye the Lord.

05.09 Morning:

Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.

Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love Him.―After that ye believed, ye were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise, Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession.

Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen Me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.―Whom having not seen, ye love; in Whom, though now ye see Him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory: receiving the end of your Faith, even the salvation of your souls.

We walk by Faith, not by sight.―Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of Reward.
