Evening Devotional

Hear this evening's devotional [Prepared by Jonathan Bagster (1813-1872)]

02.11 Evening:

The trees of the Lord are full of sap.

I will be as the dew unto Israel: He shall grow as the lily, and cast forth His roots as Lebanon. His branches shall spread, and His beauty shall be as the olive tree, and His smell as Lebanon.--Blessed is the Man that trusteth in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is. For He shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.

I the Lord have brought down the high tree, have exalted the low tree, have dried up the green tree, and have made the dry tree to flourish.

The Righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: He shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon. Those that be planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing;

Ps 104:16 Ho 14:5,6 Jer 17:7,8 Eze 17:24 Ps 92:12-14

02.11 Evening:

(Psalm 104:16)The trees of the Lord are full of sap; the cedars of Lebanon, which He hath planted;

(Hosea 14:5,6)I will be as the dew unto Israel: He shall grow as the lily, and cast forth His roots as Lebanon. His branches shall spread, and His beauty shall be as the olive tree, and His smell as Lebanon.--(Jeremiah 17:7,8)Blessed is the Man that trusteth in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is. For He shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.

(Ezekiel 17:24)And all the trees of the field shall know that I the Lord have brought down the high tree, have exalted the low tree, have dried up the green tree, and have made the dry tree to flourish: I the Lord have spoken and have done it.

(Psalm 92:12-14)The Righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: He shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon. Those that be planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing;

I Peter 5:11 To Him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

The LORD is gracious

The LORD is gracious,

and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy.
(Psalm 145:8)

The Word for the YEAR--
Romans 8:35-39 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For Thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

The Word for the month--
Psalm 18:1,2 I will love Thee, O Lord, my strength. The Lord is my Rock, and my Fortress, and my Deliverer; my God, my strength, in Whom I will trust; my Buckler, and the Horn of my salvation, and my high Tower.

The Word for the day--
Psalm 18:30,31 As for God, His Way is perfect: the Word of the Lord is tried: He is a buckler to all those that trust in Him. For who is God save the Lord? or who is a Rock save our God?

Compare Spiritual with Spiritual (1 Corinthians 2:12-14; John 5:39)--

"His Way is perfect"

John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me.

Hebrews 2:10 For it became Him, for Whom are all things, and by Whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the Captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.

"the Word of the Lord is tried"

John 1:1,14,18 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God
. . . . And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only Begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. . . No man hath seen God at any time; the only Begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, He hath declared him.

Hebrews 4:15 For we have not an High Priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted ["tried" Heb 11:17] like as we are, yet without sin.

"He is a buckler ["Shield" Gen 15:1] to all those that trust in Him"

Genesis 15:1 After these things the Word of the Lord came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield ["buckler" Ps 18:2], and thy exceeding great Reward.

Ephesians 6:16 Above all, taking the shield of Faith [Gal 2:16,20], wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

"Who is God save the Lord? or who is a Rock save our God?"

John 20:27-29 Then saith He [the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God] to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold My hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into My side: and be not faithless, but believing. And Thomas answered and said unto Him, My Lord and my God. Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen Me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.

I Corinthians 10:4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that Spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.

Again, the Word for the day
--Psalm 18:30,31 As for God, His Way is perfect: the Word of the Lord is tried: He is a buckler to all those that trust in Him. For who is God save the Lord? or who is a Rock save our God?

Hear this morning's devotional [Prepared by Jonathan Bagster (1813-1872)]

02.11 Morning:

They that feared the Lord spake often one to another: and the Lord hearkened, and heard it, and a Book of Remembrance was written before Him for them that feared the Lord, and that thought upon His name.

It came to pass, that, while they communed together and reasoned, Jesus Himself drew near, and went with them.--Where two or three are gathered together in My Name, there am I in the midst of them.--My fellowlabourers, whose names are in the Book of Life.

Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.--Exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.

Every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the Day of Judgment. For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.--Behold, it is written before Me: I will not keep silence, but will recompense, even recompense into their bosom,

Mal 3:16 Lu 24:15 Mt 18:20 Php 4:3 Col 3:16 Heb 3:13 Mt 12:36,37 Isa 65:6
