"to Whom be glory for ever. Amen"

O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are His judgments, and His ways past finding out! For who hath known the Mind of the Lord? or who hath been His counsellor? Or who hath first given to Him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again? For of Him, and through Him, and to Him, are all things: to Whom be glory for ever. Amen.
Romans 11:33-36

Colossians 2:3 In Whom [the Lord Jesus Christ] are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. . . . Colossians 2:9 For in Him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.

Ephesians 3:14-21 For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, of Whom the whole family in Heaven and earth is named, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might by His Spirit in the inner man; that Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; and to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God. Now unto Him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, unto Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.

O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are His judgments, and His ways past finding out! Evening devotional

Hear this evening's devotional [Prepared by Jonathan Bagster (1813-1872)]

11.22 Evening:

There is hope of a tree, if it be cut down, that it will sprout again, and that the tender branch thereof will not cease.

A bruised reed shall He not break.―He restoreth my soul.

Godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.―No chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of Righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.

Before I was afflicted I went astray: but now have I kept Thy Word.―After all that is come upon us for our evil deeds, and for our great trespass, seeing that Thou our God hast punished us less than our iniquities deserve, and hast given us such deliverance as this.

Rejoice not against me, O mine enemy: when I fall, I shall arise; when I sit in darkness, the Lord shall be a Light unto me. . . . He will bring me forth to the Light, and I shall behold His Righteousness.

Job 14:7 Isa 42:3 Ps 23:3 2Co 7:10 Heb 12:11 Ps 119:67 Ezr 9:13 Mic 7:8,9

11.22 Evening:

(Job 14:7)For there is hope of a tree, if it be cut down, that it will sprout again, and that the tender branch thereof will not cease.

(Isaiah 42:3)A bruised reed shall He not break, and the smoking flax shall He not quench: He shall bring forth judgment unto truth.--(Psalm 23:3)He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in the paths of Righteousness for His Name's sake.

(II Corinthians 7:10)For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.--(Hebrews 12:11)Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of Righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.

(Psalm 119:67)Before I was afflicted I went astray: but now have I kept Thy Word.--(Ezra 9:13)And after all that is come upon us for our evil deeds, and for our great trespass, seeing that Thou our God hast punished us less than our iniquities deserve, and hast given us such deliverance as this;

(Micah 7:8,9)Rejoice not against me, O mine enemy: when I fall, I shall arise; when I sit in darkness, the Lord shall be a Light unto me. I will bear the indignation of the Lord, because I have sinned against Him, until He plead my cause, and execute judgment for me: He will bring me forth to the Light, and I shall behold His Righteousness.

The LORD is gracious

For all flesh is as grass,
and all the glory of man as the flower of grass.
The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away:
but the Word of the Lord endureth for ever.
And this is the Word which by the Gospel is preached unto you.
Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings, as newborn babes,
desire the sincere milk of the Word,
that ye may grow thereby:
if so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.
(I Peter 1:24-2:3)

The Word for the YEAR--
Romans 8:35-39 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For Thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

The Word for the month--
Psalm 27:13,14 I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the Goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and He shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord.

The Word for the day--
Psalm 31:24 Be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the Lord.

Compare Spiritual with Spiritual (1 Corinthians 2:12-14; John 5:39)--

"all ye that hope in the Lord."

I John 3:1-3 Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when He shall appear, we shall be like Him; for we shall see Him as He is. And every man that hath this Hope in Him purifieth himself, even as He is pure.

I Timothy 1:1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the commandment of God our Saviour, and Lord Jesus Christ, which is our Hope;

Psalm 119:81 My soul fainteth for Thy Salvation: I hope in Thy Word.

Psalm 130:5 I wait for the Lord, my soul doth wait, and in His Word do I hope.

Colossians 1:5 For the Hope which is laid up for you in Heaven, whereof ye heard before in the Word of the Truth of the Gospel;

Romans 8:24,25 For we are saved by Hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for? But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.

Lamentations 3:24-26 The Lord is my Portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in Him. The Lord is good unto them that wait for Him, to the soul that seeketh Him. It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the Lord.

Titus 1:2 In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;

I John 4:9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us,
because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him.

I Peter 1:13 Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;

Again, the Word for the day--Psalm 31:24 Be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the Lord.

Hear this morning's devotional [Prepared by Jonathan Bagster (1813-1872)]

11.22 Morning:

Praying in the Holy Ghost.

God is a Spirit: and they that worship Him must worship Him in Spirit and in Truth.―We ... have access by one Spirit unto the Father.

O My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from Me: nevertheless not as I will, but as Thou wilt.

The Spirit . . . helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit Itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And He that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the Mind of the Spirit, because He maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.―This is the confidence that we have in Him, that, if we ask any thing according to His will, He heareth us.―When He, the Spirit of Truth, is come, He will guide you into all Truth.

Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication.

Jude 1:20 Joh 4:24 Eph 2:18 Mt 26:39 Ro 8:26,27 1Jo 5:14 Joh 16:13 Eph 6:18

11.22 Morning:

(Jude 1:20)But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most Holy Faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,

(John 4:24)God is a Spirit: and they that worship Him must worship Him in Spirit and in Truth.--(Ephesians 2:18)For through Him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.

(Matthew 26:39)And He went a little further, and fell on His Face, and prayed, saying, O My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from Me: nevertheless not as I will, but as Thou wilt.

(Romans 8:26,27)Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit Itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And He that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the Mind of the Spirit, because He maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.--(I John 5:14)And this is the confidence that we have in Him, that, if we ask any thing according to His will, He heareth us:

(John 16:13)Howbeit when He, the Spirit of Truth, is come, He will guide you into all Truth: for He shall not speak of Himself; but whatsoever He shall hear, that shall He speak: and He will shew you things to come.

(Ephesians 6:18)Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

I Timothy 4:15,16 Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all. Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.

Psalm 72:17-19 His Name shall endure for ever: His Name shall be continued as long as the sun: and men shall be blessed in Him: all nations shall call Him blessed. Blessed be the Lord God, the God of Israel, Who only doeth wondrous things. And blessed be His Glorious Name for ever: and let the whole earth be filled with His glory; Amen, and Amen.

II Timothy 2:1 Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.
