Evening Devotional

Hear this evening's devotional [Prepared by Jonathan Bagster (1813-1872)]

01.25 Evening:

The Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.

Jesus, . . . lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father.―Holy Father, . . . O righteous Father.―He said, Abba, Father.―Because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.―For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father. Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God.

Doubtless thou art our father, . . . thou, O Lord, art our father, our redeemer; thy name is from everlasting.

I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee, and am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants. And he arose, and came to his father.

Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children.

01.25 Evening:

(Romans 8:15)For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.

(John 17:1)These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee:--(John 17:11)And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are.--(John 17:25)O righteous Father, the world hath not known thee: but I have known thee, and these have known that thou hast sent me.--(Mark 14:36)And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt.--(Galatians 4:6)And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.--(Ephesians 2:18,19)For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father. Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;

(Isaiah 63:16)Doubtless thou art our father, though Abraham be ignorant of us, and Israel acknowledge us not: thou, O Lord, art our father, our redeemer; thy name is from everlasting.

(Luke 15:18-20)I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee, and am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants. And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.

(Ephesians 5:1)Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;

The LORD is gracious

The LORD is gracious,

and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy.
(Psalm 145:8)

The Word for the YEAR--
Romans 8:35-39 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For Thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

The Word for the month--
Psalm 17:15 As for me, I will behold Thy Face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with Thy likeness.

The Word for the day--
Psalm 16:11 Thou wilt shew me the path of Life: in Thy presence is fulness of joy; at Thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.

Hebrews 8:1 Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an High Priest, Who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the Heavens;

Hebrews 10:12-13 But this Man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; from henceforth expecting till His enemies be made His footstool.

I Peter 3:22 Who is gone into Heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto Him.

Acts 2:33 Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, He hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.

Acts 5:31 Him hath God exalted with His right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.

Acts 7:55,56 But he [Stephen], being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up stedfastly into Heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God, And said, Behold, I see the Heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God.

Matthew 25:33,34 And He shall set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left. Then shall the King say unto them on His right hand, Come, ye blessed of My Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:

Again, the Word for the day
--Psalm 16:11 Thou wilt shew me the path of Life: in Thy presence is fulness of joy; at Thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.

Hear this morning's devotional [Prepared by Jonathan Bagster (1813-1872)]

01.25 Morning:

The righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe.

He hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.―Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us.―Who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption.―Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour.

I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ, and be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith.

01.25 Morning:

(Romans 3:22)Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:

(II Corinthians 5:21)For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.--(Galatians 3:13)Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:--(I Corinthians 1:30)But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:--(Titus 3:5,6)Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;

(Philippians 3:8,9)Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ, and be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:
