"The King"

Psalm 45

To the Chief Musician upon Shoshannim, for the sons of Korah, Maschil, A Song of loves.

M
y heart is inditing a good matter: I speak of the things which I have made touching the King: my tongue
is the pen of a ready writer. Thou art fairer than the children of men: grace is poured into Thy lips: therefore God hath blessed Thee for ever. Gird Thy sword upon Thy thigh, O most mighty, with Thy glory and Thy majesty. And in Thy majesty ride prosperously because of truth and meekness and righteousness; and Thy right hand shall teach Thee terrible things. Thine arrows are sharp in the heart of the King's enemies; whereby the people fall under Thee. Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: the sceptre of Thy Kingdom is a right sceptre. Thou lovest righteousness, and hatest wickedness: therefore God, Thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above Thy fellows. All Thy garments smell of myrrh, and aloes, and cassia, out of the ivory palaces, whereby they have made Thee glad. Kings' daughters were among Thy honourable women: upon Thy right hand did stand the queen in gold of Ophir. Hearken, O daughter, and consider, and incline thine ear; forget also thine own people, and thy father's house; So shall the King greatly desire thy beauty: for He is thy Lord; and worship thou Him.

And the daughter of Tyre shall be there with a gift; even the rich among the people shall intreat thy favour. The king's daughter is all glorious within: her clothing is of wrought gold. She shall be brought unto the King in raiment of needlework: the virgins her companions that follow her shall be brought unto Thee. With gladness and rejoicing shall they be brought: they shall enter into the King's palace. Instead of thy fathers shall be thy children, whom thou mayest make princes in all the earth. I will make Thy Name to be remembered in all generations: therefore shall the people praise Thee for ever and ever.

Evening devotional

Hear this evening's devotional [Prepared by Jonathan Bagster (1813-1872)]

11.11 Evening:

Ye are washed, . . . ye are sanctified, . . . ye are justified.

The blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanseth us from all sin.―The chastisement of our peace was upon Him; and with His stripes we are healed.

Christ also loved the church, and gave Himself for it; that He might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the Word, that He might present it to Himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.―To her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.―Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.

Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth.―Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man unto whom the Lord imputeth not iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no guile.

11.11 Evening:

(I Corinthians 6:11)And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the Name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.

(I John 1:7)But if we walk in the Light, as He is in the Light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanseth us from all sin.--(Isaiah 53:5)But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon Him; and with His stripes we are healed.

(Ephesians 5:25-27)Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave Himself for it; that He might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the Word, that He might present it to Himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.--(Revelation 19:8)And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.--(Hebrews 10:22)Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.

(Romans 8:33)Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth.--(Psalm 32:1,2)Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man unto whom the Lord imputeth not iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no guile.

The LORD is gracious

For all flesh is as grass,
and all the glory of man as the flower of grass.
The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away:
but the Word of the Lord endureth for ever.
And this is the Word which by the Gospel is preached unto you.
Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings, as newborn babes,
desire the sincere milk of the Word,
that ye may grow thereby:
if so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.
(I Peter 1:24-2:3)

The Word for the YEAR--
Romans 8:35-39 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For Thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

The Word for the month--
Psalm 27:13,14 I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the Goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and He shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord.

The Word for the day--
Revelation 2:17 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; to him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white Stone, and in the stone a new Name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.

Compare Spiritual with Spiritual (1 Corinthians 2:12-14; John 5:39)--

"will I give to eat of the hidden manna,

Hebrews 9:3-5 And after the second veil, the tabernacle which is called the Holiest of all; which had the golden censer, and the Ark of the Covenant overlaid round about with gold, wherein was the golden pot that had manna, and Aaron's rod that budded, and the tables of the covenant; and over it the cherubims of glory shadowing the mercyseat; of which we cannot now speak particularly.

John 6:30-33 They said therefore unto Him, What sign shewest Thou then, that we may see, and believe Thee? what dost Thou work? Our fathers did eat manna in the desert; as it is written, He gave them bread from Heaven to eat. Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from Heaven; but My Father giveth you the True Bread from Heaven. For the Bread of God is He which cometh down from Heaven, and giveth Life unto the world.

Colossians 3:3 For ye are dead, and your Life is hid with Christ in God.

"in the Stone a New Name written"

Isaiah 28:16 Therefore thus saith the Lord God, Behold, I lay in Zion for a Foundation a Stone, a tried Stone, a precious corner Stone, a sure Foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste.

Revelation 4:2,3 And immediately I was in the spirit: and, behold, a throne was set in Heaven, and One sat on the throne. And He that sat was to look upon like a jasper and a sardine Stone: and there was a rainbow round about the throne, in sight like unto an emerald.

Revelation 21:10,11And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high Mountain, and shewed me that great City, the Holy Jerusalem, descending out of Heaven from God, having the glory of God: and her Light was like unto a Stone most precious, even like a jasper Stone, clear as crystal;

Revelation 3:12 Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of My God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the Name of My God, and the Name of the City of My God, which is New Jerusalem, which cometh down out of Heaven from My God: and I will write upon him My New Name.

Revelation 19:11-13 And I saw Heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and He that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in Righteousness He doth judge and make war. His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns; and He had a Name written, that no man knew, but He Himself. And He was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and His Name is called The Word of God. . . . . Revelation 19:16 And He hath on His vesture and on His thigh a Name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.

Psalm 72:17-19 His Name shall endure for ever: His Name shall be continued as long as the sun: and men shall be blessed in Him: all nations shall call Him blessed. Blessed be the Lord God, the God of Israel, Who only doeth wondrous things. And blessed be His Glorious Name for ever: and let the whole earth be filled with His glory; Amen, and Amen.

Revelation 22:3,4 And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and His servants shall serve Him: and they shall see His Face; and His Name shall be in their foreheads.

Proverbs 22:1 A good Name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.

Again, the Word for the day--Revelation 2:17 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; to him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white Stone, and in the Stone a New Name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.

11.11 Morning:
He led them on safely.

I lead in the Way of Righteousness, in the midst of the paths of judgment.

Behold, I send an Angel before thee, to keep thee in the Way, and to bring thee into the place which I have prepared.―In all their affliction He was afflicted, and the Angel of His presence saved them: in His love and in His pity He redeemed them; and He bare them, and carried them all the days of old.

They got not the land in possession by their own sword, neither did their own arm save them: but Thy right hand, and Thine arm, and the Light of Thy countenance, because Thou hadst a favour unto them.―So didst Thou lead Thy people, to make Thyself a Glorious Name.

Lead me, O Lord, in Thy Righteousness because of mine enemies; make Thy Way straight before my face.―O send out Thy Light and Thy Truth: let them lead me; let them bring me unto Thy Holy Hill, and to Thy tabernacles. Then will I go unto the altar of God, unto God my exceeding joy: yea, upon the harp will I praise Thee, O God my God.
