Evening Devotional

Hear this evening's devotional [Prepared by Jonathan Bagster (1813-1872)]

05.20 Evening:

Jesus saith unto her, Mary.

Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine.―The sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, . . . And the sheep follow him: for they know his voice.

Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me.

The foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his.―We have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God.

Thou shalt take two onyx stones, and grave on them the names of the children of Israel: . . . And Aaron shall bear their names before the Lord upon his two shoulders for a memorial. . . . And thou shalt make the breastplate of judgment . . . And thou shalt set in it . . . four rows of stones: . . . And the stones shall be with the names of the children of Israel, . . . they shall be upon Aaron's heart, when he goeth in before the Lord.

Joh 20:16 Isa 43:1 Joh 10:3,4 Isa 49:16 2Ti 2:19 Heb 4:14 Ex 28:9,12,15,17,21,30

05.20 Evening:

(John 20:16)Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master.

(Isaiah 43:1)But now thus saith the Lord that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine.--(John 10:3,4)To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out. And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice.

(Isaiah 49:16)Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me.

(II Timothy 2:19)Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.--(Hebrews 4:14)Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.

(Exodus 28:9)And thou shalt take two onyx stones, and grave on them the names of the children of Israel:...(Exodus 28:12)And thou shalt put the two stones upon the shoulders of the ephod for stones of memorial unto the children of Israel: and Aaron shall bear their names before the Lord upon his two shoulders for a memorial....(Exodus 28:15)And thou shalt make the breastplate of judgment with cunning work; after the work of the ephod thou shalt make it; of gold, of blue, and of purple, and of scarlet, and of fine twined linen, shalt thou make it....(Exodus 28:17)And thou shalt set in it settings of stones, even four rows of stones: the first row shall be a sardius, a topaz, and a carbuncle: this shall be the first row....(Exodus 28:21)And the stones shall be with the names of the children of Israel, twelve, according to their names, like the engravings of a signet; every one with his name shall they be according to the twelve tribes....(Exodus 28:30)And thou shalt put in the breastplate of judgment the Urim and the Thummim; and they shall be upon Aaron's heart, when he goeth in before the Lord: and Aaron shall bear the judgment of the children of Israel upon his heart before the Lord continually.

Romans 5:1,2: Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: by whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

The Lord is gracious

The Lord is gracious,

and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy.
(Psalm 145:8)

The Word for the YEAR--
Romans 8:35-39 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For Thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

The Word for the month--
Psalm 107:8,9 Oh that men would praise the Lord for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men! For He satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness.

The Word for the day--
Psalm 143:8 Cause me to hear Thy lovingkindness in the morning; for in Thee do I trust: cause me to know the Way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto Thee.

Compare Spiritual with Spiritual (1 Corinthians 2:12-14; John 5:39)--

"Cause me to hear Thy lovingkindness in the morning; for in Thee do I trust: cause me to know the Way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto Thee."

Revelation 11:12 And they heard a great Voice from Heaven saying unto them, Come up hither. And they ascended up to Heaven in a cloud; and their enemies beheld them.

Romans 13:12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of Light.

John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me.

III John 1:4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in Truth.

John 17:3 And this is Life Eternal, that they might know Thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, Whom Thou hast sent.

Jude 1:21 Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto Eternal Life.

I Peter 4:19 Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to Him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.

Again, the Word for the day
--Psalm 143:8 Cause me to hear Thy lovingkindness in the morning; for in Thee do I trust: cause me to know the Way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto Thee.

Hear this morning's devotional [Prepared by Jonathan Bagster (1813-1872)]

05.20 Morning:

Take heed unto thyself.

Every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible. I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air: but I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.―Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

They that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.―For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.―Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all.

1Ti 4:16 1Co 9:25-27 Eph 6:11,12 Ga 5:24,25 Ro 8:14 1Ti 4:15
