Evening devotional

Hear this evening's devotional [Prepared by Jonathan Bagster (1813-1872)]

09.25 Evening:

God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ.

Judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, Who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God.―The Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son: ... Because He is the Son of man.―The Son of God, ... hath His eyes like unto a flame of fire.

They say, How doth God know? and is there knowledge in the Most High?―These things hast thou done, and I kept silence; thou thoughtest that I was altogether such an one as thyself: but I will reprove thee, and set them in order before thine eyes.―There is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hid, that shall not be known.

Lord, all my desire is before Thee; and my groaning is not hid from Thee.―Examine me, O Lord, and prove me; try my reins and my heart.

(Romans 2:16)In the Day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel.

(I Corinthians 4:5)Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, Who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God.--(John 5:22)For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son:...(John 5:27)And hath given Him authority to execute judgment also, because He is the Son of man.-- (Revelation 2:18)And unto the angel of the church in Thyatira write; These things saith the Son of God, Who hath His eyes like unto a flame of fire, and His feet are like fine brass;

(Psalm 73:11)And they say, How doth God know? and is there knowledge in the Most High?--(Psalm 50:21)These things hast thou done, and I kept silence; thou thoughtest that I was altogether such an one as thyself: but I will reprove thee, and set them in order before thine eyes.--- (Luke 12:2)For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hid, that shall not be known.

(Psalm 38:9)Lord, all my desire is before Thee; and my groaning is not hid from Thee.--- (Psalm 26:2)Examine me, O Lord, and prove me; try my reins and my heart.

"seventy times seven"

Then came Peter to Him, and said,
Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him?
till seven times?
Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times:
but, Until seventy times seven.
Matthew 18:21,22

Matthew 18:23-35

Therefore is the Kingdom of Heaven likened unto a certain king, which would take account of his servants. And when he had begun to reckon, one was brought unto him, which owed him ten thousand talents. But forasmuch as he had not to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife, and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made. The servant therefore fell down, and worshipped him, saying, Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all. Then the lord of that servant was moved with compassion, and loosed him, and forgave him the debt. But the same servant went out, and found one of his fellowservants, which owed him an hundred pence: and he laid hands on him, and took him by the throat, saying, Pay me that thou owest. And his fellowservant fell down at his feet, and besought him, saying, Have patience with me, and I will pay thee all. And he would not: but went and cast him into prison, till he should pay the debt. So when his fellowservants saw what was done, they were very sorry, and came and told unto their lord all that was done. Then his lord, after that he had called him, said unto him, O thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou desiredst me: Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellowservant, even as I had pity on thee? And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him. So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses.

The LORD is gracious

For all flesh is as grass,
and all the glory of man as the flower of grass.
The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away:
but the Word of the Lord endureth for ever.
And this is the Word which by the Gospel is preached unto you.
Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings, as newborn babes,
desire the sincere milk of the Word,
that ye may grow thereby:
if so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.
(I Peter 1:24-2:3)

The Word for the YEAR--
Romans 8:35-39 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For Thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

The Word for the month--
Psalm 25:8,9 Good and upright is the Lord: therefore will He teach sinners in the Way. The meek will He guide in Judgment: and the meek will He teach His Way.

The Word for the day--
Micah 4:1,2 But in the last days it shall come to pass, that the mountain of the house of the Lord shall be established in the top of the mountains, and it shall be exalted above the hills; and people shall flow unto it. And many nations shall come, and say, Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, and to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for the law shall go forth of Zion, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.

Isaiah 2:1-3 The word that Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem. And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the Lord's house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it. And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.

"Come"

Matthew 11:28-30 Come unto Me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn of Me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light.

Revelation 22:17 And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the Water of Life freely.

And many nations shall come, and say, Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, and to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for the law shall go forth of Zion, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.

Hear this morning's devotional [Prepared by Jonathan Bagster (1813-1872)]

09.25 Morning:

Let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.

Now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations: that the trial of your Faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ.―We glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; and patience, experience; and experience, Hope.

It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the Lord.―Ye have in Heaven a better and an enduring substance. Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of Reward. For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the Promise.―Our Lord Jesus Christ Himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us Everlasting Consolation and good Hope through grace, comfort your hearts.
