Evening devotional

Hear this evening's devotional [Prepared by Jonathan Bagster (1813-1872)]

09.01 Evening:

If any man will come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.

By honour and dishonour, by evil report and good report.―All that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.―The offence of the cross ceased.

If I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.

If ye be reproached for the Name of Christ, happy are ye; . . . But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men's matters. Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.

Unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on Him, but also to suffer for His sake.―If One died for all, then were all dead: and that He died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto Him which died for them, and rose again.―If we suffer, we shall also reign with Him.

09.01 Evening:

(Luke 9:23)And He said to them all, If any man will come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.

(II Corinthians 6:8)By honour and dishonour, by evil report and good report: as deceivers, and yet true;--(II Timothy 3:12)Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.--(Galatians 5:11)And I, brethren, if I yet preach circumcision, why do I yet suffer persecution? then is the offence of the cross ceased.--(Galatians 1:10)For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.

(I Peter 4:14-16)If ye be reproached for the Name of Christ, happy are ye; for the Spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part He is evil spoken of, but on your part He is glorified. But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men's matters. Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.

(Philippians 1:29)For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on Him, but also to suffer for His sake;--- (II Corinthians 5:14,15)For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if One died for all, then were all dead: and that He died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto Him which died for them, and rose again.--(II Timothy 2:12)If we suffer, we shall also reign with Him: if we deny Him, He also will deny us:

I Peter 5:11 To Him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

The LORD is gracious

The Lord is gracious,
and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy.
(Psalm 145:8)

The Word for the YEAR--
Romans 8:35-39 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For Thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

The Word for the month--
Psalm 25:8,9 Good and upright is the Lord: therefore will He teach sinners in the Way. The meek will He guide in Judgment: and the meek will He teach His Way.

The Word for the day--
Matthew 5:5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.

Hear this morning's devotional [Prepared by Jonathan Bagster (1813-1872)]

09.01 Morning:

The fruit of the Spirit is . . . meekness.

The meek . . . shall increase their joy in the Lord, and the poor among men shall rejoice in the Holy One of Israel.―Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the Kingdom of Heaven. Whosoever therefore shall humble Himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven.―The ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, . . . is in the sight of God of great price.―Charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up.

Follow after . . . meekness.―Take My yoke upon you, and learn of Me; for I am meek and lowly in heart.―He was oppressed, and He was afflicted, yet He opened not His mouth: He is brought as a Lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so He openeth not His mouth.―Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow His steps: Who did no sin, neither was guile found in His mouth: Who, when He was reviled, reviled not again; . . . but committed Himself to Him that judgeth righteously.

09.01 Morning:

(Galatians 5:22,23)But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

(Isaiah 29:19)The meek also shall increase their joy in the Lord, and the poor among men shall rejoice in the Holy One of Israel.--(Matthew 18:3,4)And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the Kingdom of Heaven. Whosoever therefore shall humble Himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven.--(I Peter 3:4)But let it be the hidden Man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet Spirit, which is in the sight of God of Great Price.--(I Corinthians 13:4)Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,

(I Timothy 6:11)But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after Righteousness, Godliness, Faith, Love, Patience, Meekness.--(Matthew 11:29)Take My yoke upon you, and learn of Me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.--(Isaiah 53:7)He was oppressed, and He was afflicted, yet He opened not His mouth: He is brought as a Lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so He openeth not His mouth.--(I Peter 2:21-23)For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow His steps: Who did no sin, neither was guile found in His mouth: Who, when He was reviled, reviled not again; when He suffered, He threatened not; but committed Himself to Him that judgeth righteously:

I Timothy 4:15,16 Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all. Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.

Psalm 72:17-19 His Name shall endure for ever: His Name shall be continued as long as the sun: and men shall be blessed in Him: all nations shall call Him blessed. Blessed be the Lord God, the God of Israel, Who only doeth wondrous things. And blessed be His Glorious Name for ever: and let the whole earth be filled with His glory; Amen, and Amen.
