Evening devotional

Hear this evening's devotional [Prepared by Jonathan Bagster (1813-1872)]

09.10 Evening:

They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength.

When I am weak, then am I strong.―My God shall be My strength.―He said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for My strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.―Let him take hold of My strength.

Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and He shall sustain thee.―The arms of his hands were made strong by the Hands of the mighty God of Jacob.

I will not let Thee go, except Thou bless me.

Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the Name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, Whom thou hast defied.―Plead my cause, O Lord, with them that strive with me: fight against them that fight against me. Take hold of shield and buckler, and stand up for mine help.

09.10 Evening:

(Isaiah 40:31)But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

(II Corinthians 12:10)Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.--(Isaiah 49:5)And now, saith the Lord that formed Me from the womb to be His Servant, to bring Jacob again to Him, Though Israel be not gathered, yet shall I be glorious in the eyes of the Lord, and My God shall be My strength.--(II Corinthians 12:9)And He said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for My strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.--(Isaiah 27:5)Or let him take hold of My strength, that he may make peace with Me; and he shall make peace with Me.

(Psalm 55:22)Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and He shall sustain thee: He shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.--(Genesis 49:24)But his bow abode in strength, and the arms of his hands were made strong by the Hands of the mighty God of Jacob; (from thence is the Shepherd, the Stone of Israel:)

(Genesis 32:26)And He said, Let Me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let Thee go, except Thou bless me.

(I Samuel 17:45)Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the Name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, Whom thou hast defied.--(Psalm 35:1,2)A Psalm of David. Plead my cause, O Lord, with them that strive with me: fight against them that fight against me. Take hold of shield and buckler, and stand up for mine help.

be glory through Jesus Christ for ever. Amen.
I Peter 5:11 To Him
be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

The LORD is gracious

For all flesh is as grass,
and all the glory of man as the flower of grass.
The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away:
but the Word of the Lord endureth for ever.
And this is the Word which by the Gospel is preached unto you.
Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings, as newborn babes,
desire the sincere milk of the Word,
that ye may grow thereby:
if so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.
(I Peter 1:24-2:3)

The Word for the YEAR--
Romans 8:35-39 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For Thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

The Word for the month--
Psalm 25:8,9 Good and upright is the Lord: therefore will He teach sinners in the Way. The meek will He guide in Judgment: and the meek will He teach His Way.

Psalm 25

The Word for the day--
Psalm 25:10 All the paths of the Lord are mercy and truth unto such as keep His Covenant and His Testimonies.

09.10 Morning:

I will give them One heart, and One Way, that they may fear Me for ever, for the good of them.

A New Heart . . . will I give you, and a New Spirit will I put within you.―Good and upright is the Lord: therefore will He teach sinners in the Way. The meek will He guide in judgment: and the meek will He teach His Way. All the paths of the Lord are mercy and truth unto such as keep His Covenant and His Testimonies.

That they all may be One; as Thou, Father, art in Me, and I in Thee, that they also may be One in Us: that the world may believe that Thou hast sent Me.

I . . . beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, with all lowliness and meekness, . . . endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one Hope of your calling; one Lord, one Faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, Who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

Jer 32:39 Eze 36:26 Ps 25:8-10 Joh 17:21 Eph 4:1-6

09.10 Morning:

(Jeremiah 32:39)And I will give them One heart, and One Way, that they may fear Me for ever, for the good of them, and of their children after them:

(Ezekiel 36:26)A New Heart also will I give you, and a New Spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.--(Psalm 25:8-10)Good and upright is the Lord: therefore will He teach sinners in the Way. The meek will He guide in judgment: and the meek will He teach His Way. All the paths of the Lord are mercy and truth unto such as keep His Covenant and His Testimonies.

(John 17:21)That they all may be One; as Thou, Father, art in Me, and I in Thee, that they also may be One in Us: that the world may believe that Thou hast sent Me.

(Ephesians 4:1-6)I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, with all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one Hope of your calling; one Lord, one Faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, Who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

I Timothy 4:15,16 Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all. Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.

Psalm 72:17-19 His Name shall endure for ever: His Name shall be continued as long as the sun: and men shall be blessed in Him: all nations shall call Him blessed. Blessed be the Lord God, the God of Israel, Who only doeth wondrous things. And blessed be His Glorious Name for ever: and let the whole earth be filled with His glory; Amen, and Amen.
