Evening Devotional

Hear this evening's devotional [Prepared by Jonathan Bagster (1813-1872)]

01.31 Evening:

If a man sin against the Lord, who shall intreat for him?

If any man sin, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the Righteous: and He is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.--Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through Faith in His blood, to declare His Righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; to declare, I say, at this time His Righteousness: that He might be just, and the Justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.

He is gracious unto him, and saith, Deliver him from going down to the pit: I have found a ransom.

What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? . . . Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth. Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, Who is even at the right hand of God, Who also maketh intercession for us.

01.31 Evening:

(I Samuel 2:25)If one man sin against another, the judge shall judge him: but if a man sin against the Lord, who shall intreat for him? Notwithstanding they hearkened not unto the voice of their father, because the Lord would slay them.

(I John 2:1,2)My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the Righteous: and He is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.--(Romans 3:25,26)Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through Faith in His blood, to declare His Righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; to declare, I say, at this time His Righteousness: that He might be just, and the Justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.

(Job 33:24)Then He is gracious unto him, and saith, Deliver him from going down to the pit: I have found a ransom.

(Romans 8:31)What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? . . . (Romans 8:33,34)Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth. Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, Who is even at the right hand of God, Who also maketh intercession for us.

I Peter 5:11 To Him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

The LORD is gracious

The LORD is gracious,

and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy.
(Psalm 145:8)

The Word for the YEAR--
Romans 8:35-39 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For Thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

The Word for the month--
Psalm 17:15 As for me, I will behold Thy Face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with Thy likeness.

The Word for the day--
Romans 11:32-36 For God hath concluded them all in unbelief, that He might have mercy upon all. O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are His judgments, and His ways past finding out! For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been His counsellor? Or who hath first given to Him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again? For of Him, and through Him, and to Him, are all things: to Whom be glory for ever. Amen.

Hear this morning's devotional [Prepared by Jonathan Bagster (1813-1872)]

01.31 Morning:

If ye will not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you; . . . those which ye let remain of them shall be pricks in your eyes, and thorns in your sides, and shall vex you in the land wherein ye dwell.

Fight the good fight of Faith--The weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds; casting down imaginations, . . . and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.

Brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.

The flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.--I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.-- We are more than conquerors through Him that loved us.

01.31 Morning:

(Numbers 33:55)But if ye will not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you; then it shall come to pass, that those which ye let remain of them shall be pricks in your eyes, and thorns in your sides, and shall vex you in the land wherein ye dwell.

(I Timothy 6:12)Fight the good fight of Faith, lay hold on Eternal Life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.--(II Corinthians 10:4,5)(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

(Romans 8:12,13)Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.
