For all flesh is as grass,
and all the glory of man as the flower of grass.
The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away:
but the Word of the Lord endureth for ever.
And this is the Word which by the Gospel is preached unto you.
Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings, as newborn babes,
desire the sincere milk of the Word,
that ye may grow thereby:
if so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.
(I Peter 1:24-2:3)
The Word for the YEAR--
Romans 8:35-39 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?
shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For Thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
The Word for the month--
Psalm 27:13,14 I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the Goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and He shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord.
The Word for the day--
James 2:5
Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the Kingdom which He hath promised to them that love Him?
Compare Spiritual with Spiritual (1 Corinthians 2:12-14; John 5:39)--
"Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which He hath promised to them that love Him?"
I John 2:15-17
Love not the world, neither the things
that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof:
but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
Matthew 13:22 He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the Word; and
the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the Word, and he becometh unfruitful.
Matthew 13:40 As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in
the end of this world.
John 12:25 He that loveth his life shall lose it; and
he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto Life Eternal.
Galatians 1:3-5 Grace
be to you and peace from God the Father, and
from our Lord Jesus Christ, Who gave Himself for our sins,
that He might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father: to Whom
be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
Romans 12:2 And
be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what
is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
I Corinthians 1:27-31 But
God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and
God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;
and base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: that no flesh should glory in His presence. But of Him are ye in Christ Jesus, Who of God is made unto us Wisdom, and Righteousness, and Sanctification, and Redemption: that, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.
I Timothy 6:6-8 But godliness with contentment is great gain. For
we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.
Luke 4:18,19
The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He hath anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He hath sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
Luke 6:20 And He lifted up His eyes on
His disciples, and said,
Blessed be ye poor: for yours is the Kingdom of God.
Luke 12:32
Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the Kingdom.
Revelation 2:8-11 And unto the angel of the church in Smyrna write; These things saith the First and the Last, which was dead, and is alive; I know thy works, and tribulation,
and poverty, (but thou art rich) and
I know the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are not, but
are the synagogue of Satan.
Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast
some of you into prison,
that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days:
be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of Life. He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death.
Revelation 21:7
He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be My son.
Again, the Word for the day--James 2:5
Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the Kingdom which He hath promised to them that love Him?
Hear this morning's devotional [Prepared by Jonathan Bagster (1813-1872)]
11.27 Morning:
The glory which Thou gavest Me I have given them.
I saw . . . the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and His train filled the temple. Above it stood the Seraphims: . . . And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy,
is the
Lord of hosts: the whole earth
is full of His glory.―These things said Esaias, when he saw His glory, and spake of Him.―Upon the likeness of the throne
was the likeness . . . of a Man above upon it. . . . As the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud in the day of rain, so
was the appearance of the brightness round about. This
was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the
Lord.
I beseech thee, shew me Thy glory. . . . And He said, Thou canst not see My Face: for there shall no man see Me, and live.―No man hath seen God at any time; the Only Begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, He hath declared
Him.―God, Who commanded the Light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to
give the Light of the Knowledge of the glory of God in the Face of Jesus Christ.
