"He is Lord of all"

The Word which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ:
(He is Lord of all:)

that Word, I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judæa, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached; how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: Who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with Him. And we are witnesses of all things which He did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; Whom they slew and hanged on a tree: Him God raised up the third day, and shewed Him openly; not to all the people, but unto witnesses chosen before of God, even to us, who did eat and drink with Him after He rose from the dead. And He commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is He which was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and dead. To Him give all the prophets witness, that through His Name whosoever believeth in Him shall receive remission of sins
(Acts 10:36-43).

Evening devotional

Hear this evening's devotional [Prepared by Jonathan Bagster (1813-1872)]

09.23 Evening:

He that overcometh shall inherit all things.

If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.―Now they desire a better country, that is, an Heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for He hath prepared for them a City.―An Inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in Heaven for you.

All things are yours; . . . the world, or life, or death, or things present, or things to come; all are yours.―Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love Him. But God hath revealed them unto us by His Spirit.

Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward.―Let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us.

09.23 Evening:

(Revelation 21:7)He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be My son.

(I Corinthians 15:19)If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.--(Hebrews 11:16)But now they desire a better country, that is, an Heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for He hath prepared for them a City.--(I Peter 1:4)To an Inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in Heaven for you,

(I Corinthians 3:21,22)Therefore let no man glory in men. For all things are yours; whether Paul, or Apollos, or Cephas, or the world, or life, or death, or things present, or things to come; all are yours;--(I Corinthians 2:9,10)But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love Him. But God hath revealed them unto us by His Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.

(II John 1:8)Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full Reward.--(Hebrews 12:1)Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

The LORD is gracious

For all flesh is as grass,
and all the glory of man as the flower of grass.
The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away:
but the Word of the Lord endureth for ever.
And this is the Word which by the Gospel is preached unto you.
Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings, as newborn babes,
desire the sincere milk of the Word,
that ye may grow thereby:
if so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.
(I Peter 1:24-2:3)

The Word for the YEAR--
Romans 8:35-39 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For Thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

The Word for the month--
Psalm 25:8,9 Good and upright is the Lord: therefore will He teach sinners in the Way. The meek will He guide in Judgment: and the meek will He teach His Way.

The Word for the day--
Psalm 86:11 Teach me Thy Way, O Lord; I will walk in Thy Truth: unite my heart to fear Thy Name.

Compare Spiritual with Spiritual (1 Corinthians 2:12-14; John 5:39)--

"Teach me Thy Way, O Lord; I will walk in Thy Truth: "

John 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, Whom the Father will send in My Name, He shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me.

"unite my heart to fear Thy Name."

John 17:22,23 And the glory which Thou gavest Me I have given them; that they may be One, even as We are One: I in them, and Thou in Me, that they may be made perfect in One; and that the world may know that Thou hast sent Me, and hast loved them, as Thou hast loved Me.

Jeremiah 32:38-41 And they shall be My people, and I will be their God: And I will give them One Heart, and One Way, that they may fear Me for ever, for the good of them, and of their children after them: and I will make an Everlasting Covenant with them, that I will not turn away from them, to do them good; but I will put My fear in their hearts, that they shall not depart from Me. Yea, I will rejoice over them to do them good, and I will plant them in this land assuredly with My Whole Heart and with My Whole Soul.

Ephesians 4:1-3 I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, with all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

Again, the Word for the day--Psalm 86:11 Teach me Thy Way, O Lord; I will walk in Thy Truth: unite my heart to fear Thy Name.

09.23 Morning:

Our God hath not forsaken us.

Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you.―If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the Father chasteneth not? But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.

The Lord your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul.

The Lord will not forsake His people for His Great Name's sake: because it hath pleased the Lord to make you His people.―Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee.―Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his Help, whose Hope is in the Lord his God.

Shall not God avenge His Own elect, which cry day and night unto Him, though He bear long with them? I tell you that He will avenge them speedily.

09.23 Morning:

(Ezra 9:9)For we were bondmen; yet our God hath not forsaken us in our bondage, but hath extended mercy unto us in the sight of the kings of Persia, to give us a reviving, to set up the House of our God, and to repair the desolations thereof, and to give us a Wall in Judah and in Jerusalem.

(I Peter 4:12)Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:--(Hebrews 12:7,8)If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the Father chasteneth not? But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.

(Deuteronomy 13:3)Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for the Lord your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul.

(I Samuel 12:22)For the Lord will not forsake His people for His Great Name's sake: because it hath pleased the Lord to make you His people.--(Isaiah 49:15)Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee.--(Psalm 146:5)Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his Help, whose Hope is in the Lord his God:

(Luke 18:7,8)And shall not God avenge His Own elect, which cry day and night unto Him, though He bear long with them? I tell you that He will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall He find Faith on the earth?

I Timothy 4:15,16 Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all. Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.

Psalm 72:17-19 His Name shall endure for ever: His Name shall be continued as long as the sun: and men shall be blessed in Him: all nations shall call Him blessed. Blessed be the Lord God, the God of Israel, Who only doeth wondrous things. And blessed be His Glorious Name for ever: and let the whole earth be filled with His glory; Amen, and Amen.

II Timothy 2:1 Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.
