Evening devotional

Hear this evening's devotional [Prepared by Jonathan Bagster (1813-1872)]

07.15 Evening:

The ear trieth words, as the mouth tasteth meat.

Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.―Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.―I speak as to wise men; judge ye what I say.―Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom.

He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith.―He that is spiritual judgeth all things.

Take heed what ye hear.―I know thy works, . . . and how . . . thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars.―Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.

He calleth His Own sheep by Name, and leadeth them out. And when He putteth forth His Own sheep, He goeth before them, and the sheep follow Him: for they know His voice. And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from Him: for they know not the voice of strangers.

07.15 Evening:

(Job 34:3)For the ear trieth words, as the mouth tasteth meat.

(I John 4:1)Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.--(John 7:24)Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.--(I Corinthians 10:15)I speak as to wise men; judge ye what I say.--(Colossians 3:16)Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

(Revelation 2:29)He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.--(I Corinthians 2:15)But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.

(Mark 4:24)And He said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given.--(Revelation 2:2)I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars:--(I Thessalonians 5:21)Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.

(John 10:3-5)To Him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear His Voice: and He calleth His Own sheep by name, and leadeth them out. And when He putteth forth His Own sheep, He goeth before them, and the sheep follow Him: for they know His Voice. And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers.

The LORD is gracious

The Lord is gracious,
and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy.
(Psalm 145:8)

The Word for the YEAR--
Romans 8:35-39 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For Thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

The Word for the month--
Psalm 23:1 The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want.

The Word for the day--
Colossians 2:9,10 For in Him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in Him, which is the Head of all principality and power:

Here is the entire sentence--
Colossians 2:9-12 For in Him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in Him, which is the Head of all principality and power: in Whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ: buried with Him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with Him through the Faith of the operation of God, Who hath raised Him from the dead.

Compare Spiritual with Spiritual (1 Corinthians 2:12-14; John 5:39)--

"For in Him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily."

I Timothy 3:16 And without controversy great is the Mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.

John 1:14,16,17 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only Begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. . . . And of His fulness have all we received, and grace for grace. For the Law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

"And ye are complete in Him,"

John 17:13 And now come I to Thee; and these things I speak in the world, that they might have My joy fulfilled ["complete" Col 2:10] in themselves.

Acts 13:52 And the disciples were filled
["complete" Col 2:10] with joy, and with the Holy Ghost.

Romans 15:13 Now the God of hope fill
["complete" Col 2:10] you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.

Ephesians 3:14-21 For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, of Whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might by His Spirit in the inner man; that Christ may dwell in your hearts by Faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; and to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled ["complete" Col 2:10] with all the fulness of God. Now unto Him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the Power that worketh in us, unto Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.

Philippians 1:9-11 And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment; that ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the Day of Christ; being filled ["complete" Col 2:10] with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.

I John 1:4 And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full ["complete" Col 2:10].

"which is the Head of all principality and power:"

Ephesians 1:15-23 Wherefore I also, after I heard of your Faith in the Lord Jesus, and love unto all the saints, cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers; that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the Spirit of Wisdom and Revelation in the Knowledge of Him: the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the Hope of His calling, and what the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of His power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of His mighty Power, which He wrought in Christ, when He raised Him from the dead, and set Him at His Own right hand in the Heavenly places, far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: and hath put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be the Head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fulness of Him that filleth ["complete" Col 2:10] all in all.

Matthew 28:18-20 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto Me in Heaven and in earth. ¶Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Again, the Word for the day
--Colossians 2:9,10 For in Him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in Him, which is the Head of all principality and power:

Hear this morning's devotional [Prepared by Jonathan Bagster (1813-1872)]

07.15 Morning:

Thy will be done in earth, as it is in Heaven.

Bless the Lord, ye His angels, that excel in strength, that do His commandments, hearkening unto the Voice of His Word. Bless ye the Lord, all ye His hosts; ye ministers of His, that do His pleasure.

I came down from Heaven, not to do Mine Own will, but the will of Him that sent Me.―I delight to do Thy will, O My God: yea, Thy Law is within My heart.―O My Father, if this cup may not pass away from Me, except I drink it, Thy will be done.

Not every one that saith unto Me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the Kingdom of Heaven; but he that doeth the will of My Father which is in Heaven.―Not the hearers of the Law are just before God, but the doers of the Law shall be justified.―If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.―To him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.

Be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Mt 6:10 Ps 103:20,21 Joh 6:38 Ps 40:8 Mt 26:42 7:21 Ro 2:13 Joh 13:17 Jas 4:17 Ro 12:2
