Evening devotional

Hear this evening's devotional [Prepared by Jonathan Bagster (1813-1872)]

06.22 Evening:

Behold how He loved.

He died for all.―Greater love hath no man than this, that a Man lay down His Life for His friends.

He . . . liveth to make intercession for them.―I go to prepare a place for you.

I will come again, and receive you unto Myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.―Father, I will that they also, whom Thou hast given Me, be with Me where I am.―Having loved His Own which were in the world, He loved them unto the end.

We love Him, because He first loved us.―The love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if One died for all, then were all dead: and that He died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto Him which died for them, and rose again.

If ye keep My commandments, ye shall abide in My love; even as I have kept My Father's commandments, and abide in His love.

06.22 Evening:

(John 11:36)Then said the Jews, Behold how He loved him!

(II Corinthians 5:15)And that He died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto Him which died for them, and rose again.--(John 15:13)Greater love hath no man than this, that a Man lay down His Life for His friends.

(Hebrews 7:25)Wherefore He is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by Him, seeing He ever liveth to make intercession for them.--(John 14:2,3)In My Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto Myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

(John 17:24)Father, I will that they also, whom Thou hast given Me, be with Me where I am; that they may behold My glory, which Thou hast given Me: for Thou lovedst Me before the foundation of the world.--(John 13:1)Now before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that His hour was come that He should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved His Own which were in the world, He loved them unto the end.--(I John 4:19)We love Him, because He first loved us.

(II Corinthians 5:14,15)For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if One died for all, then were all dead: and that He died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto Him which died for them, and rose again.--(John 15:10)If ye keep My commandments, ye shall abide in My love; even as I have kept My Father's commandments, and abide in His love.

Romans 16:27 To God only wise, be glory through Jesus Christ for ever. Amen.
I Peter 5:11 To Him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

The LORD is gracious

The Lord is gracious,
and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy.
(Psalm 145:8)

The Word for the YEAR--
Romans 8:35-39 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For Thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

The Word for the month--
Psalm 108:4 For Thy mercy is great above the heavens: and Thy Truth reacheth unto the clouds.

The Word for the day--
Psalm 100:5 For the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting; and His truth endureth to all generations.

Compare Spiritual with Spiritual (1 Corinthians 2:12-14; John 5:39)--

"For the Lord is good"

Psalm 25:8 Good and upright is the Lord: therefore will He teach sinners in the Way.

Psalm 143:8,10 Cause me to hear Thy lovingkindness ["mercy" Ps 100:5] in the morning; for in Thee do I trust: cause me to know the Way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto Thee. . . . Teach me to do Thy will; for Thou art my God: Thy Spirit is good; lead me into the land of uprightness.

"
His mercy is everlasting
"

Psalm 103:17 But the mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear Him, and His Righteousness unto children's children;

Proverbs 20:28 Mercy and truth preserve the King: and His throne is upholden by mercy.

Titus 3:5-7 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; Which He shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; that being justified by His grace, we should be made heirs according to the Hope of Eternal Life.

"His truth endureth to all generations."

Psalm 117:1,2 O praise the Lord, all ye nations: praise Him, all ye people. For His merciful kindness is great toward us: and the truth of the Lord endureth for ever. Praise ye the Lord.

John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me.

John 16:12-15 I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit when He, the Spirit of truth, is come, He will guide you into all truth: for He shall not speak of Himself; but whatsoever He shall hear, that shall He speak: and He will shew you things to come. He shall glorify Me: for He shall receive of Mine, and shall shew it unto you. All things that the Father hath are Mine: therefore said I, that He shall take of Mine, and shall shew it unto you.

John 17:17 Sanctify them through Thy truth: Thy Word is truth.

I Peter 1:22,23 Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently: being born again, not of corruptible Seed, but of incorruptible, by the Word of God, Which liveth and abideth for ever.

III John 1:4 I have no greater joy than to hear that
my children walk in truth.

Again, the Word for the day--Psalm 100:5 For the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting; and His truth endureth to all generations.

06.22 Morning:

Ye are dead, and your Life is hid with Christ in God.

How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?―I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the Life which I now live in the flesh I live by the Faith of the Son of God, Who loved me, and gave Himself for me.―He died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto Him which died for them, and rose again.―If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

We are in Him that is true, even in His Son Jesus Christ.―As Thou, Father, art in Me, and I in Thee, that they also may be One in us.―Ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.―Because I live, ye shall live also.

To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the Hidden Manna, and will give him a White Stone, and in the Stone a New Name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.

(Romans 6:2)God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?--(Galatians 2:20)I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the Life which I now live in the flesh I live by the Faith of the Son of God, Who loved me, and gave Himself for me.--(II Corinthians 5:15)And that He died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto Him which died for them, and rose again.--(II Corinthians 5:17)Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

(I John 5:20)And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know Him that is true, and we are in Him that is true, even in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and Eternal Life.--(John 17:21)That they all may be One; as Thou, Father, art in Me, and I in Thee, that they also may be One in us: that the world may believe that Thou hast sent Me.--(I Corinthians 12:27)Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.--(John 14:19)Yet a little while, and the world seeth Me no more; but ye see Me: because I live, ye shall live also.

(Revelation 2:17)He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; to him that overcometh will I give to eat of the Hidden Manna, and will give him a White Stone, and in the Stone a New Name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.
