The LORD is gracious

The LORD is gracious,

and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy.
(Psalm 145:8)

The Word for the YEAR--
Romans 8:35-39 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For Thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

The Word for the month--
Psalm 17:15 As for me, I will behold Thy Face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with Thy likeness.

The Word for the day--
Matthew 5:6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after Righteousness: for they shall be filled.

Compare Spiritual with Spiritual (1 Corinthians 2:12-14; John 5:39)--

"do hunger and thirst after Righteousness"

Psalm 107:4-5 They wandered in the wilderness in a solitary way; they found no city to dwell in. Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted in them.

"for they shall be filled"

John 6:35 And Jesus said unto them, I am the Bread of Life: he that cometh to Me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on Me shall never thirst.

Ephesians 3:17-19 That Christ may dwell in your hearts by Faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in Love, may be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; and to know the Love of Christ, which passeth Knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.

Galatians 5:5 For we through the Spirit wait for the hope of Righteousness by Faith.

Psalm 17:15 As for me, I will behold Thy Face in Righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with Thy likeness.

Psalm 107:9 For He satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness.

Again, the Word for the day
--Matthew 5:6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after Righteousness: for they shall be filled.

Hear this morning's devotional [Prepared by Jonathan Bagster (1813-1872)]

01.19 Morning:

Serving the Lord with all humility of mind.

Whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister; and whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant: even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.

If a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself.―I say, . . . to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.―When ye shall have done all those things which are commanded you, say, We are unprofitable servants: we have done that which was our duty to do.

Our rejoicing is this, . . . that in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom, but by the grace of God, we have had our conversation in the world.―We have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.

01.19 Morning:

(Acts 20:19)Serving the Lord with all humility of mind, and with many tears, and temptations, which befell me by the lying in wait of the Jews:

(Matthew 20:26-28)But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister; and whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant: even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.

(Galatians 6:3)For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself.--(Romans 12:3)For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.--(Luke 17:10)So likewise ye, when ye shall have done all those things which are commanded you, say, We are unprofitable servants: we have done that which was our duty to do.

(II Corinthians 1:12)For our rejoicing is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom, but by the grace of God, we have had our conversation in the world, and more abundantly to you-ward.--(II Corinthians 4:7)But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.
