The Lord is gracious,
and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy.
(Psalm 145:8)
The Word for the YEAR--
Romans 8:35-39 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For Thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
The Word for the month--
Psalm 108:4 For Thy mercy is great above the heavens: and Thy Truth reacheth unto the clouds.
The Word for the day--
Psalm 8:1 O Lord our Lord, how excellent is Thy Name in all the earth! Who hast set Thy Glory above the Heavens.
Here is the entire Psalm--
Psalm 8
To the chief Musician upon Gittith, A Psalm of David.
O Lord our Lord, how excellent is Thy Name in all the earth! Who hast set Thy Glory above the Heavens. Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast Thou ordained strength because of Thine enemies, that Thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger.
When I consider Thy Heavens, the work of Thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which Thou hast ordained; what is man, that Thou art mindful of him? and the Son of man, that Thou visitest Him? For Thou hast made Him a little lower than the angels ["Elohim" Gen 1:1], and hast crowned Him with glory and honour. Thou madest Him to have dominion over the works of Thy hands; Thou hast put all things under His feet: all sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field; the fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas [cp.Heb 2:6-10]. O Lord our Lord, how excellent is Thy Name in all the earth!
Compare Spiritual with Spiritual (1 Corinthians 2:12-14; John 5:39)--
"Who hast set Thy Glory above the Heavens."
Psalm 57:5 Be Thou exalted, O God, above the Heavens; let Thy Glory be above all the earth.
Psalm 57:11 Be Thou exalted, O God, above the Heavens: let Thy Glory be above all the earth.
Psalm 108:5 Be Thou exalted, O God, above the Heavens: and Thy Glory above all the earth;
Psalm 113:4 The Lord is High above all nations, and His Glory above the Heavens.
Psalm 148:4 Praise Him, ye Heavens of Heavens, and ye waters that be above the Heavens.
Romans 16:27 To God only wise, be Glory through Jesus Christ for ever. Amen.
I Peter 5:11 To Him be Glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
Hebrews 2:6-10 But one in a certain place testified, saying, What is man, that thou art mindful of him? or the Son of man, that Thou visitest Him? Thou madest Him a little lower than the angels; Thou crownedst Him with Glory and honour, and didst set Him over the works of Thy hands: Thou hast put all things in subjection under His feet. For in that He put all in subjection under Him, He left nothing that is not put under Him. But now we see not yet all things put under Him. But we see Jesus, Who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with Glory and honour; that He by the grace of God should taste death for every man. For it became Him, for Whom are all things, and by Whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto Glory [cp. Jn 10:15,16], to make the Captain of their Salvation perfect through sufferings.
Again, the Word for the day--Psalm 8:1 O Lord our Lord, how excellent is Thy Name in all the earth! Who hast set Thy Glory above the Heavens.
Hear this morning's devotional [Prepared by Jonathan Bagster (1813-1872)]
06.10 Morning:
Such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the Name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.―We . . . were by nature the children of wrath, even as others. But God, Who is rich in mercy, for His great love wherewith He loved us, even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) and hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus.
Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us, and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. . . . If, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of His Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by His Life.
