Evening Devotional

Hear this evening's devotional [Prepared by Jonathan Bagster (1813-1872)]

04.30 Evening:

He that is slow to wrath is of great understanding.

The Lord passed by before him, and proclaimed, The Lord, The Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering.―The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

Be ye . . . followers of God, as dear children; and walk in love.―The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.―This is thankworthy, if a man for conscience toward God endure grief, suffering wrongfully. For what glory is it, if, when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God. For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ . . . suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow His steps: . . . Who, when He was reviled, reviled not again; when He suffered, He threatened not; but committed Himself to Him that judgeth righteously.

Be ye angry, and sin not.

(Proverbs 14:29)He that is slow to wrath is of great understanding: but he that is hasty of spirit exalteth folly.

(Exodus 34:6)And the Lord passed by before him, and proclaimed, The Lord, The Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth,--(II Peter 3:9)The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

(Ephesians 5:1,2)Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; and walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given Himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.--(Galatians 5:22,23)But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.--(I Peter 2:19-21)For this is thankworthy, if a man for conscience toward God endure grief, suffering wrongfully. For what glory is it, if, when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God. For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow His steps: . . . (I Peter 2:23)Who, when He was reviled, reviled not again; when He suffered, He threatened not; but committed Himself to Him that judgeth righteously:

(Ephesians 4:26)Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:
