Evening devotional

Hear this evening's devotional [Prepared by Jonathan Bagster (1813-1872)]

07.28 Evening:

Let your requests be made known unto God.

Abba, Father, all things are possible unto Thee; take away this cup from Me: nevertheless not what I will, but what Thou wilt.―There was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure. For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me. And He said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for My strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities.

I poured out my complaint before Him; I shewed before Him my trouble.―Hannah . . . was in bitterness of soul, and prayed unto the Lord, and wept sore. And she vowed a vow, and said, O Lord of hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of Thine handmaid, and . . . wilt give unto Thine handmaid a man child, then I will give him unto the Lord all the days of his life, . . . The Lord remembered her.

We know not what we should pray for as we ought.―He shall choose our inheritance for us.

07.28 Evening:

(Philippians 4:6)Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

(Mark 14:36)And He said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto Thee; take away this cup from Me: nevertheless not what I will, but what Thou wilt.--(II Corinthians 12:7-9)And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure. For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me. And He said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for My strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

(Psalm 142:2)I poured out my complaint before Him; I shewed before Him my trouble.--(I Samuel 1:9-11)So Hannah rose up after they had eaten in Shiloh, and after they had drunk. Now Eli the priest sat upon a seat by a post of the temple of the Lord. And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed unto the Lord, and wept sore. And she vowed a vow, and said, O Lord of hosts, if Thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of Thine handmaid, and remember me, and not forget Thine handmaid, but wilt give unto Thine handmaid a man child, then I will give him unto the Lord all the days of his life, and there shall no razor come upon his head. . . .(I Samuel 1:19)And they rose up in the morning early, and worshipped before the Lord, and returned, and came to their house to Ramah: and Elkanah knew Hannah his wife; and the Lord remembered her.

(Romans 8:26)Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.-- (Psalm 47:4)He shall choose our inheritance for us, the excellency of Jacob whom He loved. Selah.
