The LORD is gracious

The Lord is gracious,
and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy.
(Psalm 145:8)

The Word for the YEAR--
Romans 8:35-39 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For Thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

The Word for the month--
Psalm 25:1,2 Unto Thee, O Lord, do I lift up my soul. O my God, I trust in Thee: let me not be ashamed, let not mine enemies triumph over me.

The Word for the day--
Psalm 61:1,2 To the Chief Musician upon Neginah, A Psalm of David.
Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer. From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.

Hear the entire Psalm--

Psalm 61
To the Chief Musician upon Neginah, A Psalm of David.

Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer. From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy. I will abide in Thy tabernacle for ever: I will trust in the covert of thy wings. Selah.

For thou, O God, hast heard my vows: thou hast given me the heritage of those that fear thy name. Thou wilt prolong the King's life: and his years as many generations. He shall abide before God for ever: O prepare mercy and truth, which may preserve him. So will I sing praise unto thy name for ever, that I may daily perform my vows.

Compare Spiritual with Spiritual (1 Corinthians 2:12-14; John 5:39)--

"To the Chief Musician upon Neginah, A Psalm of David.
Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer. From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I."

Isaiah 49:6 And He said, It is a light thing that Thou shouldest be My Servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved of Israel: I will also give Thee for a Light to the Gentiles, that Thou mayest be My salvation unto the end of the earth.

Romans 8:15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.

Luke 18:7,8 And shall not God avenge His Own elect, which cry day and night unto Him, though He bear long with them? I tell you that He will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall He find Faith on the earth?

II Corinthians 1:8-10 For we would not, brethren, have you ignorant of our trouble which came to us in Asia, that we were pressed out of measure, above strength, insomuch that we despaired even of life: but we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead: Who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver: in Whom we trust that He will yet deliver us; . . .

Exodus 33:21 And the Lord said, Behold, there is a place by Me, and thou shalt stand upon a Rock: . . .

Deuteronomy 32:2-4 My doctrine shall drop as the rain, My speech shall distil as the dew, as the small rain upon the tender herb, and as the showers upon the grass: because I will publish The Name of the Lord: ascribe ye greatness unto our God. He is the Rock, His work is perfect: for all His ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is He.

I Corinthians 10:4 And did all drink the same Spiritual drink: for they drank of that Spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.

Again, the Word for the day
--Psalm 61:1,2 To the Chief Musician upon Neginah, A Psalm of David. Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer. From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.

Hear this morning's devotional [Prepared by Jonathan Bagster (1813-1872)]

08.09 Morning:

Thou art all fair, My love; there is no spot in thee.

The whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint. From the sole of the foot even unto the head there is no soundness in it; but wounds, and bruises, and putrifying sores: they have not been closed, neither bound up, neither mollified with ointment.―We are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags.―I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing.

Ye are washed, . . . ye are sanctified, . . . ye are justified in the Name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.―The King's daughter is all glorious within.―Perfect through My comeliness, which I had put upon thee, saith the Lord God.

Let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us.

These are they which . . . have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.―A glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but . . . holy and without blemish.―Ye are complete in Him.

So 4:7 Isa 1:5,6 64:6 Ro 7:18 1Co 6:11 Ps 45:13 Eze 16:14 Ps 90:17 Re 7:14 Eph 5:27 Col 2:10

Concerning the Word for the day and the rock I was reminded of Song of Songs and the Lord and Moses in Ex 33:21-22, as well as 1 Cor 10:4....

Song 2:14 O My dove, that art in the clefts of the rock, in the secret places of the stairs, let me see thy countenance, let me hear thy voice; for sweet is thy voice, and thy countenance is comely.
Ex 33:14-22 And He said, My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest.
And he said unto Him, If Thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence.
For wherein shall it be known here that I and Thy people have found grace in Thy sight? is it not in that Thou goest with us? so shall we be separated, I and Thy people, from all the people that are upon the face of the earth.

And the Lord said unto Moses, I will do this thing also that thou hast spoken: for thou hast found grace in My sight, and I know thee by name.

And he said, I beseech Thee, shew me Thy glory.

And He said, I will make all My goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the Lord before thee; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will shew mercy on whom I will shew mercy. And He said, Thou canst not see My face: for there shall no man see Me, and live.

21 And the Lord said, Behold, there is a place by Me, and thou shalt stand upon a rock:
22 And it shall come to pass, while My glory passeth by, that I will put thee in a clift of the rock, and will cover thee with My hand while I pass by: And I will take away Mine hand, and thou shalt see My back parts: but My face shall not be seen.

1Cor 10:4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.

Ya? What do you think?

Mom--Psalm 73:23-28 said...

Yes, His people "My dove" are hid in the "clefts of the Rock"--hid in Christ ...

Colossians 3:1-4 If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. When Christ, Who is our Life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with Him in glory.
